Natural Resources Careers Conference (Summer Camp)

The Forest Conservancy District Board for Baltimore County is offering free scholarships (with the exception of a small $100 fee) to three Baltimore County public, parochial, or home-schooled high school students to attend an incredible week-long Natural Resources career-based camp July 22-28 in Accident, Maryland.  Natural resource professionals and dedicated volunteers have developed the extensive and relevant curriculum. Traditional Forestry will be the main focus of this educational experience with the inclusion of GIS and GPS technology. Urban Forestry and Watershed ecology are also emphasized. This curriculum is hands-on, allowing the campers to experience a taste of each of the career fields. Students attending who desire to receive college credit for the week (good at Allegheny College and transferable to other specified colleges and universities)  may pay a small fee to take an exam. There is an additional possible scholarship for college through Allegheny College available to the top-scoring campers.  For further information about the camp go to http://www.dnr.state.md.us/forests/nrcareersconf.html or contact Julie at jwadsworth@bcps.org

Charging a fee of $100 sort of makes the "free" part not quite accurate - wouldn't you say? If something is FREE it shouldn't cost you $100.

Joyce, Thank you for the point. I understand your concern. I guess the message is not clear. The camp cost if covered, with the exception of a $100 lab fee. Still a great deal for a week long camp that can lead to scholarships in college. Hopefully you will still spread the word about the camp. Thanks!
