Homicide investigators say that Iglesias-Reyes and Portillo-Portillo were roommates who had gotten into an argument, according to Armacost. Investigators do not know what the argument was about.

Iglesias-Reyes stabbed Portillo-Portillo multiple times and fled the home immediately afterward,  leaving a trail of blood throughout the neighborhood.

Police and fire units responded to a call for a cardiac arrest at the Scarsdale Road home at 6:21 a.m. Aug. 20.

When they arrived, officers discovered the victim dead from multiple stab wounds. They also observed a blood trail leading out of the basement into a rear alley where a knife was found. The blood trail continued out into the surrounding community.

Investigators discovered that Iglesias-Reyes left the Scarsdale Road residence after the stabbing and met with residents at a home in the 7900 block of Eastdale Road.

He was found in Baltimore City, getting into a cab and attempting to leave town, Armacost said in an email to Patch.
