Commuters Monday morning should plan for extra travel time or take public transportation with some roads in Baltimore County and Maryland still closed from fallen trees and power lines.

As of 6 p.m. Sunday, seven traffic lights in Baltimore County and hundreds throughout the state were out of service, according to Baltimore County and Maryland State Highway Administration officials.

In Baltimore County, 24 roads were closed and seven traffic signals were not working as of 6 p.m. Sunday.

The list on Baltimore County’s website is constantly changing and may not have all road closures. The county is also Tweeting updates. To report non-working traffic signals, call 410-887-2222.

The State Highway Administration is urging Marylanders to use public transit Monday morning, anticipating traffic from the hundreds of signal outages.

At 5 p.m. Sunday, more than 430 traffic signals were not working in Montgomery County alone, and another 165 in the rest of the state were also without power, according to Charlie Gischlar, SHA spokesman.

“We’ve improved greatly through much of the state since yesterday,” he said.

At the peak of the recovering, 192 state roads were closed, he said.

As of 5 p.m. Sunday, several state roads were closed roads in Montgomery County, Prince Geroge's County and Charles County. Most of the roads were closed because of trees that had fallen on power lines, Gischlar said. SHA is updating is website with road closures.

Traffic signals that are not working should be treated as four-ways stops, and motorists coming to non-working signals from side streets should be extra vigilant, he said. Motorist can also call 511 for the state’s free travel information line.
