BGE Warns Additional Outages Expected

As of 2 p.m., officials from the utilities company report that power has been restored to more than 133,000 customers.

Although the brunt of superstorm Sandy has passed, Baltimore Gas & Electric officials caution that additional outages are expected.

New outages may occur over the next few days as tree and tree limbs weakened by the storm continue falling, according to a news release. As of 2:36 p.m., electric service was restored to more than 166,274 customers.

The BGE current outages map shows that 150,705 customers are still without.

More than 4,500 workers are assisting in ongoing restoration efforts, the release states.

Customers are asked to report power outages and downed wires by calling 1-877-778-2222.

One down line takes out 3 communities off berrymans lane. Not sure how BGE plans it works. Obviously they don't know how to get the most people back with the least effort.

Norm-Do you have power back yet? We are on Deer Park (near Ravens Training Camp) and still do not have power. They leared the trees that were down around noon yesterday - still don't have power this morning...but the Ravens Training Camp had power back on Tuesday morning...I guess they have their priorities.

My community in Bel Air still has no electricity...and my neighbor was told that we wouldn't have it until SUNDAY. Our WHOLE neighborhood is on wells...so not only do we not have electric, but we don't have heat OR water. I understand that the workers are working as hard as they can, but I am SICK and TIRED of hearing the BGE Francy-Pants Executives talk about what a great job they are doing....it's the same as every storm.

Our community looses power all of the time...so we know the drill...a BGE truck comes up the street and slowly examines the lines and tries to determine the root cause of the problem, then later (typically 6 to 8 hours later), the BGE trucks come and fix the issue, then flip the main switch, and we all have electricity again.

We have had MULTIPLE BGE trucks in the last 2 days, SPEED down our road....because they're not examining it, but they're using our road as a CROSS-ROAD b/c it's a dirt/ gravel road that they won't ruin line other precious paved roads would be with their trucks....it's like waving a steak at a starving child.

On TOP of that...there are NO DOWNED wires in our community...the whole this was tripped by the branches of tree falling down.

AND just try to call BGE to lodge a complaint...it's impossible.

These guys are paid by the hour and are making piles of overtime. What incentive do they really have to get the job done faster? I've watched some of these crews, and it's like watching Baltimore County fix a hole in the street.

Absolutely a fact. I saw two BGE trucks parked in the empty lot along 152, doing nothing...and a truck with Georgia plates w/ a birds nest just driving around. Also a BGE truck parked where the tree is down on Tollgate doing nothing yesterday morning. By evening yesterday no progress had been made w/ regard to the Tollgate tree - wonder how long the guy in the BGE truck stared at it before he moved out. There is zero incentive for these guys to hurry - particularly when we're calling them from out of state.

What incentive? How about getting home to make sure our families are safe, checking to see if WE have power at OUR OWN homes. Some of us have been out here BEFORE it has hit, and haven't been home YET. How's that for incentive?

It's ridiculous that people are willing to hurt other people in order to make an extra buck.

Remember that some of these workers homes may have been damaged and they may also be without electric but they are out fixing your poles and wires while their homes remain damaged and they are not there to mitigate the damages.
Give them a fricking break!

I don't know if you guys know this or not, but BGE isn't responsible for tree removal and they can't repair an area until the trees are removed. Tree removal is something you need to take up with the county.

Joe and I hardly ever agree, but in this case he is dead on.

You work the shifts they work, sometmes in a strange place far from home, and then try complaining about how they do the job. If you don't like how they do it, buy a generator.

You don't bring crews from out of state and have them park in parking lots awaiting tree removal. If we had to wait on the county we shouldn't have called them up in the first place. Say whatever you want but logistics matters. Would you call for a roof installation before the house was built and then have the roofers wait around while they finished building? Cart before horse doesn't work.

Karl, maybe you should go down there and help them with their scheduling - you obviously have the solution all dialed in...

well ingleside ave was out since monday evening around 8 p.m. we regained electricity last evening around 8 p.m. and i'm amazed that we even got it back on then, with all the damage that was down near the intersection fo edmondson avenue and ingleside avenue. there was also a huge evergreen tree fallen across ingleside ave near woodsdale. crews came tuesday to clear that mess up but no power. it's a total mess everywhere i'm sure. i'm thankful to the crews regardless. it's an absolute pain i know. my freezer/refrig items were on their way out. and yes definitely remember even though we may see them "just standing around", i believe they are working as much and as quickly as they can taking care of us, when yes, their own homes may be wrecked too. Just a plus for me: i did get some extra needed rest - no light to read and no tv to watch {of course there's not much on tv worthwhile anyhow}. hope everyone gets back their power soon and most importantly are unharmed. Look at NYC and NJ - Maryland made out ok!

ITs always easy to place blame when your stress but stop and think your complaining is not going to make anything happen quicker. there are steps that have to be done prior to them restoring the services. also like the gentlemen said above they too have families affected by the storm . I think they doing the best they can with what they have . its not cool to be with out power but dont stress yourself out more . be blessed that we not going through what our northern states are going through. I prepared myself for a outage by pretty much not buying any frozen foods and i cooked the night before the meats that was in the freezer. god bless

I'm more interested in seeing the sequential list of tree removal from the county than blaming BGE. It appears to be random and without thought. Yes, I called the county and got a response that bordered on the ridiculous....something about having to evacuate nursing homes first...that was Sunday and it's now Thursday. Wonder is there's anyone on the council or in upper admin with the county without power. I'm bettin' not.
