CCBC Dundalk Guard Signs with Angelo State

Point Guard Xavier Chargois was selected for the 2011 Division II 3rd team NJCAA Region XX Men's basketball team.

Community College of Baltimore County-Dundalk point guard Xavier Chargois has signed an athletic scholarship to play basketball next season at Angelo State University, an NCAA Division II school in San Angelo, TX.

Chargois, 20, was selected to the 2011 Division II 3rd team NJCAA Region XX Men’s basketball team after averaging 15 points, 4.7 assists and 2.9 steals per game for CCBC-Dundalk. He shot 44 percent from the field, 48 percent from three-point range, and 76 percent from the free-throw line.

Chargois' play was a highlight of the season. Coached by Cleveland Rudisill, the Lions struggled overall, winning six games.

Chargois was also selected for the Maryland JUCO All Star team.

"He's a great kid, hard working," said CCBC Dundalk Athletic Director David Mintzer. "Super athletic, a tough competitor, and a good shooter inside and outside."

The 6-foot-2 guard will be reunited with Reggie Brice, his adopted brother and a high school teammate from South Gwinnett High School in Snellville, GA, at Angelo State. Brice, a 6-foot-8 forward, averaged 15.7 points per game and 6.9 rebounds at Northwest Shoals Community in Alabama.

Rudasill said Chargois, a CCBC-Dundalk co-captain, came to Dundalk to improve his offensive game.

"He's a good ball handler, excellent passer and plays pretty good defense," Rudisill said. "He's left-handed. One of the main reasons he came was to improve his outside game, his three-point shooting, which he did."

Angelo State will be Chargois' third college in three years. He played as a freshman at Shorter College in Georgia.

Angelo State, coached by Fred Rike, went 11-15 overall last year and 7-7 in Lone Star Conference play.

"Angelo State has been one of the elite programs in Division II," Rudisill said. "Usually a four-year school recruits a JUCO kid, they expect him to play right away. Hopefully, he can come in and start for two years. I think he's going to be successful the next two years."

Rudisill will direct the 2011 CCBC Dundalk boy's summer basketball camp. The registation deadline is June 13. More information can be found here.
