Dog Jumped Off Boat Believed At Sparrows Point

Local family’s lost dog, lost two weeks ago, is believed to be on RG Steel property. They’re asking for help from employees and contractors.

Jennifer Sikorski is desperately trying to get word out about her family’s dog, Buttercup, who jumped from their boat May 25 at 5:30 p.m. between Millers Island and North Point State Park.

The family has received several reports of sightings of Buttercup, a 150-pound Brindle English Mastiff with a pink collar and tags, on the property of RG Steel, the new owners of the former Bethlehem Steel facility at Sparrows Point. However, the dog remains missing at this time.

The family received permission for a search on RG Steel property, which they did last week with the help of Dogs Finding Dogs.  The search, Sikorski said, did pick up Buttercup’s scent several times, but to no avail.

“Buttercup’s family is grieving terribly,” Sikorski said.

The last sighting at RG Steel was near the Ship Yard gate, Sikorski said.

She added that RG Steel said that it could only allow the single search because of safety concerns.

“We need the employees of RG steel or a contracting company to help us get her back,” Sikorski said. “We were told in an e-mail that she looked very hungry. We are concerned that she may be starving. We need help getting the word about Buttercup spread. We need someone to post fliers past the gate. We need someone who has seen her and works there to put food out for her.”

Sikorski said she was told by an RG Steel employee that it would be okay for Baltimore County Animal Control to set up an animal trap, which Sikorski hopes will happen soon. The RG Steel employee also told Sikorski that she will put small amounts of food out for Buttercup, hoping to attract her to the same place.

Sikorski said Buttercup is generally afraid of men and barks – and likes women more. She said Buttercup has not attacked or bitten previously.

Anyone sighting Buttercup is asked to contact Paul Sikorski at 443-610-5420 or Jennifer Sikorski at 443-610-5198.

It's a long way around from Millers Island/North Point State Park to the shipyard side of Sparrows Point.

"I saw an adult, dark, brindle colored mastiff heading west on the 3500 block of White Avenue, 21206 around 2:30 PM today (Sunday). No collar. Looked kind of thin. I hope you find your

Big, friendly dog came wandering into our yard in Roland Park today. Obviously trained and kept indoors (must take over a whole couch). Please contact us with a description of your lost pet and if correct, we'll meet up.
