While a southeast Baltimore family struggles to deal with the loss of a child, its home and all of its possessions, the Dundalk community is rallying to help.

A Dundalk hair salon is collecting clothes and a local credit union has set up an account for cash donations.

Fire raged through the Lacy family home in the 6600 block of Hartwait Street, just inside the Baltimore City line near Dundalk, late Saturday night.

Baltimore city firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 10:45 p.m. Jan. 26. When they arrived at the home, they found the one-and-a-half story house fully involved, with reports that a child was trapped inside the building, according to department spokesman Chief Kevin Cartwright.

Unsafe conditions made it impossible to continue a search and rescue effort, and firefighters were forced to evacuate the building and fight the blaze from outside, according to a statement from Cartwright.

When first responders were able to again enter the building, they found the lifeless body of 10-year-old Raven Lacy on the first floor, according to Cartwright.

The house was occupied by eight people when the fire broke out, and everyone except Raven Lacy was able to escape. Three of her siblings were treated on the scene and then taken to area hospitals for further treatment and evaluation. An adult woman reportedly suffered a possible broken arm when she escaped from the blaze.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the investigation was continuing as of Tuesday, according to Cartwright.

How to Help the Lacy Family

The following efforts have been established to help the Lacy family:

Donations of clothing only may be dropped off at Candid Cuts Salon, 4049 North Point Blvd. in the St. Gregory Shopping Center.

Clothing is needed in girls' sizes 3T and 8; boys' husky size 12-14; men's 2X and women's 3X.

Donations may be dropped off on Monday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Financial donations may be made to the Raven Lacy Fund, Johns Hopkins Federal Credit Union, 2027 E. Monument St., Baltimore MD 21287.
