I think the Berkshire Community Association folded. No one showed up at the meetings and I know the president did his best to involve the community.
A further destabilization of the Dundalk community. I have been saying this for years. You replace the middle class with a lower class and this is the result. Under the current political leadership I see no change.

There you go. Some poor soul gets shot and you try to use it to try and further your personal vendetta against somebody in the County Government.
That's kinda sad.

I have been to many of those meetings. It was the same old same old. Nothing new was suggested on what to do with the neighborhood. Most of the time the members just talked about everyone in the neighborhood that they didn't like.

What we need is to replace the high level of renters with home ownership. We have such a beautiful community, tree lined streets, beautiful parks and accessible waterways. We really are a gateway in Baltimore County. Why our corrupt elected officials can't see that..is beyond me..We deserve better...

This hits way too close to home for me. I recently moved out of that area, a street adjacent to Aldworth. I shared an alley with aldworth. This is precisely why I own a gun to protect my home.

I believe we can trace this back to 3 words...."Move To Opportunity" So we escape to Harford County and the same thing happens here.

Buzz is 100 percent right, ever since MTO was enforced because of the Lawsuit by the ACLU our Neighborhoods have continued to decline, hell,we can't even get our streets repaved and the Police can't even do their Jobs because of Political flashback.

MTO had nothing to do with this. That is a myth that is continually perpetuated to get the old white people all riled up. The politicians seized upon this myth to get elected. There has been numerous followup studies to the MTO program that prove this.

I would be interested to see who conducted theses studies and what political agenda they have (if any)

Steve, so your saying that the mass exodus from the city when the projects where torn down had nothing to do with crime, drug sales, gangs in the county areas today.

Eastsider, Steve is a little behind on the study aspect of MTO. The most recent one shows a significant impact on crime. One of my retired friends used to track those stats, but I'm sure Steve has a certain defined agenda ("old white people all riled up."), where accountability and the truth mean nothing.
I guess he would define the situation in the city as a high school class trip for youths. A lot of people did get riled up there.

I beg to differ..MTO AND all of the closures of the projects in Essex such as Tall Trees, Riverdale and the other porjects located on Back River neck road and Parts of O'Donnell Heights had a HUGE impact on our crime, drugs, gangs, section 8. Where do you think they placed these families? It sure wasn't in Towson, White Marsh, Pikesville. I should know I worked for the county and remember quite well what was said and where some of these families were placed..And I wasn't even in the agency that handled the placements. WHY was it fair to saturate our area? I know this story is about 2 people who were hurt in a home invasion but it leads to bigger questions as to why is our community going so wrong. I have been here all of my life and can tell you about life before MTO and after MTO...It is very different. I feel very qualified to say that it has an impact.

Shell9, noting you can say about the truth will impact Steve's train of thought. It travels in one direction and the tracks are rickety.

They had nothing to do with MTO. Those places didn't even qualify for the MTO program because of the income constraints placed on the participants and the neighborhoods which were available.
This is just a myth that certain Eastside politicians manipulated in order to get themselves elected.
You are not qualified to analyze the situation. Everything you bring up is merely anecdotal evidence at best.

YES I know that the ESSEX properties mentioned were not part of the MTO..I merely stated that along with MTO our community started declining even more. Yes as a resident of Dundalk..I would say that I am qualified to say that MTO surely started the ball rolling..

Our community is going so wrong because the problems we face are being addressed by the same people who helped to create them. Baltimore County officials lack the vision and drive needed to save Dundalk. Many residents are tired of being part of the experiment known as the DRC.

John the DRC is misguided, ill-informed and politically connected. Here's a blog I did on them.

Shell9 I agree our concern must be with the victims., but I also feel that these types of tragic events bring to the forefront that calls the communities attention to these matters.
This tragedy was not a natural event or accident, but a crime. Jessica's Law is a classic example how these types of events can spur the community into action. John Walsh is another example of a victim who dedicated his life to combating the plague of crime that creates victims such as those involved in this tragedy.
I'm sure the victims of this crime feel outraged and would want people speaking about solutions to this cancer of crime.
Sympathy is appropriate, but so is action on behalf of the victims. Otherwise, who speaks for them?
