Eastpoint Mall to be Auctioned May 29
The sale is planned as the result of a lawsuit filed by the lender against the property owner.
Eastpoint Mall, long a shopping fixture in the Essex and Dundalk communities, is expected to be sold at auction on May 29.
The auction for the 67.2-acre property at 7839 Eastern Ave. will be held at the Bosley Avenue front entrance of the Circuit Court for Baltimore County, according to a legal advertisement in The Jeffersonian.
The Baltimore Business Journal reported in March that the mall had been placed in receivership and that a Georgia real estate firm had assumed management of the property.
The actions were the result of a lawsuit filed by lender LNR Property LLC against mall owner Thor Equities, according to the BBJ.
Richard M. Kremen and Dale K. Cathell of DLA Piper LLP are the substitute trustees for the property, according to the ad, and the sale will be handled by Tidewater Auctions.
Improvements on the property include an enclosed mall with about 851,000 square feet of leasable space, featuring anchor and major store space, an in-line kiosk, food court and office and outparcel space.
The mall was built in 1957 as an open shopping center and underwent a major renovation in 1991 and a minor renovation in 2005, according to the ad.
The center currently has more than 100 tenants and offers more than 3,400 parking spaces.
The successful bidder must present a $1 million deposit at the time of the sale, the ad states.
Detailed information about the property and sale is contained in the media section of this article.
Potential bidders may contact Tidewater Auctions by calling 410-825-2900.

That doesn't say much for the DRC's plans to bring a big box retail to Dundalk now does it. Diamond Point has been vacant for as long as I can remember. Over where Gold's is there are over five vacant stores. Merrit Park is having a problem attracting a anchor but the DRC knows better.
There are almost as many vacant store fronts in Dunalk as people. My question is why the DRC continues to push Vontran's Seagram's deal? Apparently like certain council members a potential ethical issue just gets in the way of doing business.

DRC is an idea whose time has come...and gone. The organization itself has come to see its own irrelevance in a dead shopping center when it pronounces itself as a "coordinator" for the volunteer community organizations around Dundalk. I wonder how these community groups feel about having a "coordinator"?

Wayne, especially when that "coordinator", makes statements that fly against any logic of the topic in which they speak. They seem to take verbatim what they are being told without any questions or research.
Their actions border on being ludicrous considering their goal of revitalizing the Dundalk area and how the lack of knowledge in their planning or research is evident in their letters.

As a dundalk resident..born n raised..i believe dundalk needs a mall..with decent stores..not stores oriented towards inner city residents..but stores for everyone..i grew up..in colgate..accross from eastpoint mall..n i remember the mall was always crowded n did lots of buisiness..as far as the vacant stores ALL OVER dundalk..rent needs to be lowered on most of these n buisinesses n companies would come to our community..Its really sad n depressing to see dundalk going down hill...

"Stores for everyone" says ALOT!! I'm a senior citizen and it's so difficult trying to find clothes at the Eastpoint Mall. It seems everything is geared to another generation of wants and desires. There are so many senior citizens in Dundalk that would shop in Dundalk....if only we could.

This is just another example of why Dundalk is not what it once was.

I remember not so long ago, (say, 8 years) that mall had stores, it made money etc. And then aladdin's castle left. Then spencers...and stores just kept closing. The places that are there stopped hiring. If they could somehow fix the entire situation, they could actually bring jobs back to dundalk. And fix part of our economy.

you all can say community this and that but i worked in this mall off and on for 15 years all the merchants have had to deal with horrible rent increases and there is no help from anyone there i was told the door had to be repaired by the merchant they wouldn't even replace a l fluorescent light bulb for us !! They walk around with note books ready to fine you if you open late or close early. So go ahead and talk about "community" needs.... this place is a hell hole!

Truly, what does Mondawmin at Eastpoint have to offer the community? 15 or 20 years ago the mall thrived today nothing but nail solons, wig shops, cheap clothing stores and crappy jewelry kiosks. The new owners need to revamp this mall or tear it down and start over.
