Fort Howard Park to Rock with Edgestock

Seventh annual music festival benefits the Sparrows Point Recreation Council.

Fort Howard Park will come alive Saturday not with the sounds of "bombs bursting in air" but rather live music when the waterfront park hosts the 7th annual Edgestock.

The outdoor music festival will feature the talents of six acts that will provide music from 1 to 10 p.m.

Sparrows Point Recreation and Parks Council organizes the popular event. All proceeds go to the council and its programs for local residents, according to chairman Dave Darr.

"We're trying to create a fund for additional athletic fields, and we use this money for field maintenance and improving them," Darr said Thursday. "We're an all-volunteer organization, and we're just trying to make things better for the kids."

The gates to Fort Howard Park will open at 12:30, with music beginning at 1 p.m. when the Strait Shooter Band kicks the event off with a set of classic rock.

Outbreak (classic/party rock) and the Kelly Bell Band (funk and blues) will follow, with "headliner" act Kashmir closing the concert, Darr said.

Darr said he's "pretty excited about being able to book Kashmir, a Led Zepplin cover band out of New York, for the local music fest.

"They're really good and I think people will enjoy them," he said.

Acoustic musicians Nikki Stacy and Joe Tichy will perform between the acts when equipment is being broken down and reset, according to Darr.

The rec council will have a concession stand with a variety of food items, including hamburgers, hot dogs, pit beef and ham, French fries and ice cream.

A beer garden will offer beer, wine and Twisted Tea at "reasonable prices," according to an event flier.

Tickets cost $10 for ages 6 and older; children 5 and younger will be admitted free of charge.

"Edgestock is just a fun, friendly event that benefits the rec council," Darr said. "We're hoping for a big crowd and we have a big show planned."
