Four Injured in Boat Crash Near Key Bridge
A 40-foot recreational boat struck a piling near the bridge Sunday night, authorities said.
Three people injured in a boat crash near the Francis Scott Key Bridge on Sunday night were taken to area hospitals by Baltimore County Fire Department crews, according to a county public safety spokeswoman.
The Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Coast Guard and the county fire department all assisted in the aftermath of the crash in what Baltimore County Police Detective Cathy Batton called a "truly multi-jurisdictional effort."
A Good Samaritan notified Coast Guard Sector Baltimore Watchstanders at about 9:44 p.m. Sunday after seeing a 40-foot recreational boat strike a piling near the Key Bridge, according to Coast Guard News.
A rescue boat from Coast Guard Station Curtis Bay responded to the scene and brought three of four injured people aboard the rescue boat, according to the report.
Batton said county fire department personnel took two patients to the University of Maryland's R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center and one patient to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
The Coast Guard report said that a fourth person was being stabilized before being taken to a hospital Sunday night, but no additional information was available Monday.
The Department of Natural Resources also assisted in the rescue effort, according to Batton.
No additional information about any of those injured was available Monday.

I can remember talking to some of our marine officers who patrolled the county waterways and some of the issues they had to deal with.
It was especially difficult for them because of the backup issue. They were pretty much on their own.
It is important for other jurisdictions to come together in times such as these. Lives depend on it.

North Point Edgemere Volunteer FD, Bowleys Quarters Volunteer FD, and Baltimore City FD all had boats on the scene, as well as Baltimore County PD and MSP air support. In speaking with people who took part in the actual rescue, the scene was very complex and rough seas added to the rescue.

Also ammazing is this is nation boater Safety week. Our US Power Sqadron had been out all week at downtown Marinas spreading the word, offering Vessel safety checks. We were on a 1 hour web pod cast doing a show about boater safety just minutes before the accident.
