State and local officials are planning a golden homecoming this upcoming Monday.
The governor's office announced Wednesday that Gov. Martin O'Malley, County Executive Kevin Kamenetz and Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will host a celebration for Michael Phelps and other returning Olympians and Paralympians next week.
The ceremony is set for Monday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m., at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater at Pratt and Light streets in downtown Baltimore.
Phelps, a Rodgers Forge native, added six medals—four gold, two silver—at the London Olympics. With 22 medals total, he is now the most decorated Olympian of all time.
At the Paralympics, Middle River swimmer Jessica Long currently has five medals to her name, with several races left to go.
