Photo of the Day: Dragonfly at North Point State Park

Recently, amid the Queen Anne's Lace growing wild at North Point State Park, local photographer Dotty Cristy captured an up-close look at a dragonfly.

Dragon Flies are so hard to get a shot of... they move so quickly! Nice Shot!

Something Dotty has - far more of than many photographers - is a keen eye for visually pleasing angles, composition and balance. This is clearly evident in how the plant stem comes from down near the bottom right corner, but not touching the right side edge of the shot, then ends in the upper left, and far enough from the edges of the shot so that our eyes enjoy the soft blue all around the Dragonfly. Having the Dragonfly perched sideways with its left feet there on the plant stem and its legs nicely defined helps this shot a lot. How Dotty's photography excels above most others' is clearly evident in the way that the well balanced - artfully out of focus - soft blue and white background gives the shot depth and added dimension. These are the kinds of comments Dotty would hear during a photo critique in a photography class.
