Police Investigating Stabbing Death of Man in Colgate

The victim, a man in his early 20s, was found dead in the basement of a Scarsdale Road home.

Baltimore County Police Department homicide detectives are investigating what appears to be the stabbing death of a man in his early 20s.

Police responded to the 400 block of Scarsdale Road in Colgate at about 6:20 a.m. Aug. 20 for a report of an injured person, according to spokeswoman Elise Armacost.

When they arrived, police officials found the victim, who has not yet been positively identified, dead in the basement of the house.

Detectives are not certain what the victim's relationship is to the other people in the home, according to Armacost. Officers who speak Spanish were called to assist with language issues.

Detectives are investigating a large crime scene that extends about four blocks from the home where the crime occurred, according to Armacost; evidence was dropped throughout the four-block area.

How do you investigate a homicide when you can't communicate with the victims?

I wonder how many families lived in that house? I would say that by now the suspect may be long gone.

I've spoken about this many times when crime destabilizes a community. It impacts the housing market and devalues the prices of the homes.

The county is becoming another extension of the city.

Wait till David hears about this!

"Officers who speak Spanish were called to assist with language issues."

Yes you are correct and a perfect example of destabilization of a community is this story and it was ten years ago.

You can't bring poor and illegals of any race into an area and expect it to flourish. They have neither the means, money or education to accomplish that.

Sarah is not a race issue but more of a class one. That fact has been proven time and again.

Hey Martin before run you lips with the what you think are the facts be bright enough to read what I wrote at least three times before you comment. Like for example look at my response to Sarah which is (I realize this is above your head) up one comment from yours I SAID IT'S NOT A RACE ISSUE.

I live in Dundalk and worked that area in a patrol car from 75 till the the late 80's. Is that good enough for you. Are you a police officer and work the area and have knowledge of the problems or just a foul mouth who just runs off at the lips.

Im a person that lives in the neighborhood you talk about. Im also wise enough to read between the lines as many of us are. your original comment had what to do with the subject? If there was no comment made about the spanish speaking officers needed, you would of never made the ”I wonder hke many families lived in that house” line. Give me a break.

Nowhere did it say these people were poor or illegals. But you, being the obvious bigot, made a comment about ”poor and illegals.” And riding around in a patrol car is a lot different than living.

Martin. I wish there was a like button cuz i'd push it for your comments.. Buzz is out of touch. Reminds me of some dude that has a fake badge & fake cop lights that goes around trying to act like a cop but is not a cop. I still have no clue what in my comment warranted his comment about racisim. Although it was a spanish man that died.

Hey Martin I told you to read my comments three times before making a comment. Between the lines is a lame excuse for your ineptitude.

Now quote me where I said the people involved in this issue were paraphrased with any mention of what or who they were. I wondered how many FAMILIES lived in that house.

You see when I ran for office I spoke to your community association and heard about the issues. Were you there? I'll ask the president, he'll know.

As far as being as cop in that area for all of those years I saw more in a week than you will see in a lifetime.

Now as to the remarks on the other issue I not the only one who looks at the numbers.

The problem is not with whom or what country the people are from , it is with the fact that since Sparrows Point Bethlehem steel shut down , Dundalk and the surrounding community's have have seen a marked rise in drugs and crime . Bring back the jobs and the crime will go back down . No jobs , no hope , more drugs and so on , I love Dundalk . .

Sarah Sams, I owe you a profound apology for my misconstrued comment. I did not read your comment clearly and accept responsibility for my actions.

This is no doubt not my first error in judgement and I would bet it won't be my last. I do realize when I'm wrong and will admit it.

It's all good and go knows I'm not going to get into a debate about all this stuff. It's bad & i wished It never would have happened / Colgate is a good community of hard working people for the most part.

It saddens me that the first comment the family will read following the article about the young man's death is mean spirited and racist at best. Having lived in Colgate for twenty years, I have seen the neighborhood become a mix of people, most of whom I am friendly with. Four houses on my block of Eastdale have regular police activity. Three of those four are owner-occupied white families, born right here in this country. A few of the homes are occupied by families of hispanic descent. They are owner occupied, each with only one family residing inside. One of those homes was a former crackhouse, then owned by a white "American" family. The police have only been summoned to one of the hispanic owned homes once; to investigate a brutally violent hate crime committed on one of its residents. Destablization????? Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses..... Did someone cut off the Statue of Liberty's head? As an additional point of information, it's also the white USA born home owners on my block who are renting out rooms to persons of very unsavory character. I would say that constitutes multiple families residing in one home. My deepest condolences to the family.

Amen Kitty. I'm an Eastdale homeowner myself. And i don't have any problems out of the Hispanic neighbors at all.. maybe some loud music occasionally but I'm guilty of that on weekends too I'm sure. The real problem is the young white thug boys.. or should I say wanna be thug boys. Or young couples fighting. Other than that Ii love here.

Alayna thank you. Kittty, I have a question for you. In your comment you refer to my opening statement of; "the young man's death is mean spirited and racist at best.". and I did not mention a race in that comment. I did refer to the language barrier because the family of that victim would want the suspect brought to justice.

Now how do you accomplish that when you don't speak the same language?

Now as for the racist remarks look at your own posting. You refer to the term - White and Hispanic in describing conditions in your neighborhood. You also make the statement of a, "white American family." What kind of statement is that? I am to infer the Hispanic family you referred to are not Americans or non whites are in that same catagory?

Now to the word - destabilization - I'm going to post this link again because you apparently did not read it. Read it several times and this incident happened ten years ago. That is what causes destabilization along with numerous other issues. It impacts the value of your home and those around you. Now I suggest you read carefully.

The Statute of Liberty make no mention of breaking our nations laws to come here. I am referring to all illegals. What about those who come here and spend years trying to become citizens? What about them? Spike Lee said it best- Do The Right Thing!"

"The Statute of Liberty make no mention of breaking our nations laws to come here.""
LOL That's because the Statue of Liberty was dedicated in 1886 and the first Immigration Law with teeth in it , the Scott Act was passed until 1888. There wer no immigration laws to speak of.

Wow, an article about a some people interested in themselves. Sure, tear down those lower income houses to get rid of the drugs and filth. Th an you can complain about the homeless situation just caused by taking away housing. Drugs and crime are in every class.

It's what happens when people don't care and you are correct there are issues in very class, but just not as many.

As a member of a community you can take care of your home or let it become an eyesore and like a cancer there goes your community. Most people are interested in themselves that is why they care about their community, family, life and a majority of good communities will continue too fight the blight you speak of.

Look at the problem with the homeless that befell Main St. in Dundalk. Look at back then and now. Therein lies your answer.

And no Buzz, the cancer in the neighborhood s are the police and elected officials who claim to want to help but do nothing. Just like it says in the article YOU posted. They seek help and dont receive it bc the people who we are supposed to help are worried about making the good areas stay good instead of helping the struggling areas get better.

Martin, I can't argue on that fact. The sad part is we the people elect our officials and the last turn out in this district was one of the lowest on record. That too is part of destabilization. When the poeple lose interest in the community a lot of things go wrong.
