Residents Can Voice Opinions Tonight at Zoning Hearing

The 7th Councilmanic District's public zoning hearing begins at 6 p.m. at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts.

Greater Dundalk residents will have their chance tonight to voice their opinions regarding zoning changes under consideration by Baltimore County officials.

The 7th Councilmanic District's public zoning hearing will get under way at 6 p.m. June 12, at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts.

The hearing is the next step in the county's quadrennial Comprehensive Zoning Map Process.

Every four years, all residents—and county staff members—can make zoning change requests of the county.

One of the more controversial requests being considered in the 7th District is that of property owner John Vontran, who's asking to change the zoning of the former Seagram's plant property on Sollers Point Road from DR1 (one house per acre) to a higher density category that will permit residential and office space use.

After requests are filed, county planning staff members make their preliminary recommendations and the Baltimore County Planning Board hosts public hearings.

Planning board members then hold a series of work sessions before each Baltimore County Councilman holds a public hearing in his or her district.

After the councilmanic hearings, the council will hold a special session on Aug. 28 for the final adoption of zoning changes, according to the Baltimore County website.

This is a slam dunk for the Developer. The County will get more tax money if they allow 4 times the amount of housing on an acre then 1,and we all know how the money grabbing County Council works.( show us the money)

The negativity surrounding this move is baffling to me. Of course it needs to be rezoned, or nothing will be done with the property. The same 30 people will turn out to complain, some of whom fancy themselves environmental biologists.

Darrell, I would not say it's a "slam dunk." Read my blog on the subject and click on the PDF file titled Agreement of Sale. Read pg. 4 a) - i).
