Update: Arrest Made in Seahorse Inn Stabbings

The following information was supplied by the Baltimore County Police Department. In cases where a criminal charge is noted, the information provided does not indicate a conviction.

Update (12:43 p.m.) A Dundalk man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault following two stabbings at the Seahorse Inn Saturday night, according to Baltimore County police.

Adam Wayne Church, 21, of the 2800 block of Yorkway, Dundalk, is currently being held at the Baltimore County Dentention on $1,000,000 bail. A trail date has been set for November 10.

Initially, police said that three people had been stabbed at the Seahorse Inn Saturday night, but preliminary reports regarding a third victim were incorrrect. The third victim was later identified as Church, according to police.

The stabbings occurred at appoximately 10 p.m., said Cpl. Jim Elliott of the Baltimore County police.

At least two of victims suffered serious injuries and were taken to the trauma center at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Elliott said.

The Seahorse Inn is located in the 700 block of Wise Avenue.

Wow, another stabbing in Dundalk. It's not even shocking anymore. People say these kind of things always went on, you just didn't know about them. I say to that BS! When you used to walk around your neighborhood and feel safe and now you won't even walk up the block well it's not hard to figure out. Dundalk is NOT what it used to be.

Dundalk has become Baltimore City extended. I can say Dundalk still has pockets of good neighborhoods but don't know how much longer they will hold on. Just this weekend Dundalk has had a multi stabbing and a drive by shooting. Wake up politicians get control of this mess before it kills a great community.

Part, they are the entire problem. Not once have our local politicians try to stop the vast number of section 8 or housing assisted homes in our community. Nor have they fought to limit the number of MTA buses in our community. These two items coincide with each other which equals to declining neighborhoods. If you limit these two items you could reduce the crime rate in our area and would help to rebuild troubled areas.

Yes but they keep getting elected. So in a democratic system the majority wants it like this which is so sad.I wonder what percentage are getting government assistance. They are the ones that continue to vote democratic to keep them in.

Hi Freddy, I am Allan. My problem with what you are stating is stupidity on your part for not checking things out before talking about them. MTA just to get around Dundalk safely I need to ride the MTA Bus Service. Section 8 homes a lot that you claim are section 8 are not. In the meeting they had at the Dundalk Historical Society they were talking about a specific home someone complained about to Housing, for "Section 8" that person was told that the house in question was not section 8. Each month without knowing what day or time a supervisor goes out and checks on the housing where section 8 homes are and checks their paper work. Most of the time section 8 housing has one adult and sometimes one adult and one child in them.

Section 8 housing is not just about Race but about putting people in living spaces with some help. If you looor research you will that a lot of the bad ass elderly have section 8 housing. Oooooh they must gotten out of the neighborhood.

All of you are correct in one way or the other, but theres one factor we all leave out all the time. There has been no opponents to run against the Democrats, but I believe times are changing in Dundalk and there will be a choice in 2014 and if there is. Vote for the candidates who will put the communities first and not the developers.

Suz,

I looked in the mirror and my kids came out ok. All work being a productive member of society.
In a perfect world parents do teach right from wrong but in today’s society were tugs are reproducing quicker then rabbits and their off spring emulates the parents there lays the issue. I’m not saying in a perfect home where you have two loving parents you can’t have a trouble maker because you do. But a child growing up in the system of entitlements and having one or at times no parents these are the ones that causes the issues.
Politicians can change a community if they put forth the effort. Again limit the number of these types of rentals properties, limit the number of public transportation, instead of just handing out entitlements make them work for it somehow, educate these people to stop the generation after generation on these programs and make them a productive part of society, force them to take drug testing if collecting assistance. Things like this could change some communities back to great communities again.

Its lack of work One of the homeless guys I talked to has a college education, had a wife and children, his wife and kids were taken to a home for women and children he thinks it was two years ago. He sleeps where he can he gets what he can. I have not seen him in Dundalk for two weeks. I am a volunteer at the Dundalk Patapsco Neck Historical Society and Museum Inc. VIolence seems to be the answer to everything these days, next to greed. Some one looks at you the wrong way:stab them or shoot them. Don't want their babies anymore.Kill them. Hide them in the woods or a dumpster.Breaking in to peoples homes and stealing tehir hard earned stuff when the crooks are too lazy to come under ones authority. So many abuse the system for food stamps/unemployment and etc. Get a job. One might feel better earning what they want. STop feeling sorry for yourselves. Either be pitiful or powerful, but cant be both. Dont let your past predict your future.Put down the handguns/knives and other weapons.Im tired of seeing violence all over the news, let alone it being in my neighborhood.

I guess we will agree to disagree there Allen. I grew up in Dundalk my entire life and the days of unlocked doors, leaving your bike lying in the front yard or car windows down are long gone. Areas of Dundalk have become a cesspool WHY because all the reason I have listed in past post. Sorry you don’t agree with me but I am entitled to my opinion as you are. For an educated man being out of work for so long says one thing to me, you don’t want to work or your being too picky of what job or salary you want so you choose to live off the taxpayer. And I think the same for your buddy that sleeps on the street as well. As far as section 8 housing or assisted housing whatever you want to call it do your research hundreds of homes all over Dundalk. Do a search on the web for available section 8 home in Dundalk you will find a list of them. Then there is the other kicker what these landlords get for these homes is ridiculous another waste of my tax dollars. AGAIN THE DEMISE OF DUNDALK IS SECTION 8 AND THE MTA.

What is happening to Dundalk is and has been happening across Baltimore County.

It is cause and effect. There is a direct correlation between the influx of Section 8 and the destabilizing of the particular community. Just as this link reveals, law enforcement can plot the impact of this movement.

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tom-blumer/2008/06/21/section-8-vouchers-crime-correlated-expect-media-indifference

Not all those who rely on MTO (Move to Opportunity/Section 8) are contributing to the destabilizing problem but the numbers don't lie.

When the middle class begins its exodus the "Broken Window" phenomenon begins. The tax revenue is decreased and the additional strain on the SS budgets increases.

When those of the middle class wishing to exit can't sell their homes they rent them out. The Sun wrote on this issue extensively regarding the Berkshire area of Dundalk.

This type of violence is bad for business for the Sea Horse. The political connections are well know and this type of attention can have political ramifications.

If you doubt the numbers, look at the crime rates in large urban areas and compare them to the surrounding suburbs, e.g. Baltimore City's homicide rate vs Baltimore County's.

Whenever you have an increase in rental properties in a neighborhood, you have problems, Section 8 or not, althought the Sec. 8 properties are subject to a more stringent evaluation process.
Renters, as opposed to owners care less about their surroundings, peeling paint, broken windows, proper trash cans, etc. People who are lax on these items are usually lax in other areas of their lives. For this, you need a strong zoning and code enforcement assistance from the county.
Those who are harrassed about the state of their property tend to just move on.
Neighborhoods need to stick together and badger their County officials to do something about the little thingd, and the big things take care of themselves, over time.

All the BS about politicians and welfare and Section 8 is just that... B.S.. I happen to frequent the Sea Horse almost every Friday (and have for years now) to sing karaoke. Since I've been 21 (and I am now 29), I've never witnessed a fist fight, let alone a stabbing, on a Friday night. It's really not the Sea Horse, the staff, the managment, the location, or the police and politicians who patronize the bar. It's the CROWD of Dundalkians who gather there. Friday night is a different scene than Saturday. Friday is when the 'adults' come out to relax. Saturday is when the 'kids' come out to play (which is precisely why I don't attend on Saturday, but yes, I've witnessed this first hand). If the parents of Dundalk would stop pointing fingers at everyone else, the poor, the blacks, the section 8, the entitled, the cops, the politicians, etc., etc., and start raising their kids to NOT STAB STRANGERS in a BAR, maybe this 'Dundalk Problem' (not 'Sea Horse' problem) would get a little better... Just my opinion.

Your last sentence is so true. I don't know what goes on at the Sea Horse but I sure agree that it's the parents job to raise their children the right way. OMG have you heard how these children speak. Sit on your porch and listen to them as they go by. They have no respect for ANYTHING. Not for themselves, other people, other peoples property. They throw their trash on the ground. Lynch Road looks like a big garbage can. Look at some of the yards. And then try to call someone to get them to clean it up. Good Luck. Join some groups. Please let me know what any of these groups have done so far. And I mean to lessen the crime, clean up the neighborhoods and make Dundalk a better place to live because obviously it's not working. We are all aware of the problems but nothing is done about them.

If there is no correlation between the two issues then why is the crime rate, or more specifically the murder rate in the city so much higher than the county.

Why is the unemployment almost 17% in the city and 70% of the children have no father.

You claim that there is no impact on Section 8 and crime, what are your credentials in the area of law enforcement to make such an assumption.

Your link is left winged and it's biased on this subject.

I guess you think you are more knowledgeable than my PROFESSOR friend at JHU who studies these issues.

Which one of your six alleged college degrees you claim to have are related to this topic.

Maybe you can explain the difference in the crime rates between the city and the county.

It is amazing that every piece of evidence presented to you is either racist or a smear.

You refuse to comprehend the ATF gun scandal, or the Solyndra gaff and now looming on the horizon is another Obama bright idea, $1.2 billion Sun Power deal.
At a cost of $1.2 billion the company created a total of 15 jobs. Let's see that is $80 million per job. What makes this even worse is Obama spent our tax dollars on this company after its stock dropped 95%.

The problem with establishing any meaningful correlation here is the presence of a multitude of variables; none of which can be isolated. A scientific study on the casaul relationship "can't" exist in the purist sense. That said, Robert, I would be interested to see the journal(s) that discredit the Rosin study. It is rather well-regarded in academic circles, though as I've said, it clearly has it's limitations due to the nature of the subject matter/number of variables.

Regarding the the Sea Horse: I wish them luck, they deserve better than this. That place was a rat hole 15 years ago. Lionel and Ed built a business based on common sense and a loyal customer base. You can't control every bad decision your patrons may or may not make. We are lucky to have this spot in our backyard.

Wow really all people need to grow up and be responsible everywhere. This kind of stuff happens everywhere and I don't care what kind of housing issues they live in still happens in non section 8 areas as well. It's not how kids are raised. You could be the best parent in the world and your child could grow up to be a loser. I believe once you are old enough to know better then shame on you. There is a time in your life when you should know right from wrong. It's a shame that the drug addicts and criminals everywhere are allowed to keep doing what they do. I believe if you harm or kill someone intentionally then you should suffer the same way.
