'TRAshART' to Feature Unlikely Masterpieces
Event will feature works of art made from reclaimed trash by Maryland Institute College of Arts students.
Artworks created from reclaimed trash will be the centerpiece of TRAshART, an art show, festival and auction set for Sunday at Ballestone Manor in Essex.
In April, students from the Maryland Institute College of Arts performed cleanups of Back River and Essex Skypark.
Selected trash items were taken back to the classroom to be transformed into pieces of art. The masterpieces will be unveiled on Sunday.
TRAshART will offer a full schedule of activities, including tours of the historic Stansbury-Ballestone house, music by the General John Stricker Middle School steel drum band and displays of artwork by MICA sculptor Jim Pollock, Towson University and Baltimore County Public Schools students and community members, according to the Back River Restoration Committee website.
The day's menu will include food from Little Havanas, a beer tasting provided by Max's Taphouse and a wine tasting by Will Comotto.
Tickets cost $20. All proceeds will benefit the Back River summer intern program.

Speaking of TRashART, filmmaker John Waters was picked up hitchhiking in Ohio by the indie rock band, Here We Go Magic. They said he was standing on the side of the road holding a sign that read "to the end of Rte 70." He was spotted doing the same early Monday near his home in Guilford.
I wonder if it was the tax increases that sent him on the road across the country because the article did not say whether he was using the thumbs up or down technique.
