Springing Into Dundalk Yet Again
New Dundalk Patch Editor Marge Neal returns to the community where she launched her journalism career 13 years ago.
I went into the reporting business to write about others.
So I'm always a bit stymied and run into writer's block when I have to turn the pen—keyboard?—toward myself.
I'm tasked with telling you a little bit about me—your new Dundalk Patch editor—which seems almost silly, given how many of us already know each other.
But here goes.
It is often said that life is a circle and we regularly end up right back from where we started.
That's the case today as I return to my journalism roots with my appointment to Dundalk Patch.
I've had an on-again, off-again relationship with Greater Dundalk for nearly 30 years as jobs have taken me in and out of the community.
As the recreation center supervisor for the West Inverness community in the mid-1980s, I had the opportunity to meet many of you when I worked for the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks.
In 1999, I left county government to work as a reporter and later associate editor for The Dundalk Eagle, again finding myself in the community after working my way around the beltway with Rec and Parks.
I left the "Iggle" just over four years ago to work for a daily newspaper in Frederick County, and started with Patch last September.
The opening at Dundalk Patch presented an opportunity to return to the community I have always loved to brag about, and I'm excited to once again be entrusted to tell your stories.
And what timing, with the St. Patrick's Day parade just around the corner!
Speaking of the day of green beer, I'm particularly excited to be back in an area known for $1.60 pints of imported brews!
I look forward to reconnecting with Dundalk, Turner Station, St. Helena, Edgemere and Fort Howard friends while building Dundalk Patch into the go-to media voice for all of Greater Dundalk.
That, of course, can't be done without you. Dundalk Patch is a community and it needs your participation, your eyes and ears, your tips and your contributions to be successful.
Send me tips and upload your own photos, announcements and calendar listings. If you own a business, claim your listing in Dundalk Places for free. I'll do my best to make sure Dundalk Patch is reflective of you, your accomplishments, your businesses, your schools, your churches, your community and homeowner organizations and, of course, your rec councils.
I can be reached at marge.neal@patch.com.
See you at the parade!

Don't forget to include Graceland Park in your news too! The best people are in Dundalk and would give you the shirt off their backs. No snobs, just good decent people.

Eleanor, I'm glad you mentioned Graceland Park! In reading my column again, I saw that I forgot to list it. GP is certainly a part of this Patch!
