Amazing, absolutely amazing!
David, the Santa pics, was that the night of that terrible crash on Dundalk Ave.?
What about the Sun's photo contest, I see some winners there.

I walked past the accident scene on my way into the Dundalk-Patapsco Neck Historical Society Museum to take the Santa pics. That was after the time you were on scene, Buzz, when the emergency help crew had fully responded and was hard at work; you had helped with first-aid, and I rarely stop at such a scene when my help is not needed, too. Also, I saw no use for any photos I could have taken.
You actually walked right by me when I was going into the museum and you were coming out from the Christmas Holiday celebration inside. I did not recognize you, but Mike Andy the train garden guy told me you had just left. He and I often discuss what is on Dundalk Patch, so we had talked about your work on this site and Mike knew you and I would have spoken if either of us had realized who the other was.
I think the Sun photo contest - like most photo contests - is for amateur photographers. I became a pro the day I graduated from US Army Photo Lab Tech School - in 1970. I can't seem to make any money at photography, but I have to do something beside sit home and collect my veterans disability checks. Plus, I produce pro level photos, and can't ever present myself as an amateur.

David it's that passion in life that keeps guys like you and I grazing in the fields. You paint with a camera and I try with words.
I know you are a pro. I did not realize the Sun contest was relegated to amateurs.
In a way your situation is like an oxymoron. You would think with all of the new venues for photos, e.g. the world of the electronic media, and other numerous technological venues, there would be a need for real pros.
I started out as a freelance for the Sun and found a niche writing about police work. I tried other outlets including screenwriting. It took ten years for someone in Hollywood to answer a query and another five to get my script to the screen.
The sad part there was my script was not their picture. Either way we're still here; I'm tapping those keys and your snapping those photos.
It's always nice to know when someone out there appreciates your work.

Yep, it certainly is nice knowing someone out there appreciates my photography work. Thanks for that.
And, a while back, I read and enjoyed some of your old articles in the Sun. I do say that your script not being their movie is something I've learned through the years that happens a lot to other writers.
But you've missed out on realizing that writing is a big part of my life, as it has been for a dozen years. You can check out a guide to some of my short stories (more are planned plus a movie) about my time as a Dundalk kid who moved to Northern Maine and fit right in; as a bear hunting guide and country girl's delight. Swear to it; no tall tales told at all. Here's a guide to my short stories:

Enjoy.

Doug, scouts honor? David has some great pics and I'm sure being a DAV has brought a certain insight into those frames of life.

This is my first posting. Give me a chance to get to know the proper procedures. I'm not a tech geek by any stretch of the imagination!
