This is the first of many, I hope, blogs to stir the memories and creative thoughts of our Dundalk natives. Born and raised in Berkshire (I know some of you think that is not Dundalk, but that is a future blog), it will be my challenge to inspire some of you to give input to design the Dundalk of the future.
How do we stay in the race to be a community where people will move to, raise their families or start a business? Or just come here to have fun. Now before someone rats me out, I live in Essex and have since I married my princess who is from Edgemere.
However, I attended Dundalk High and DVTC (who knows what that is?). My wife is a Sparrows Point alum, my son is a Patapsco grad, like my daughter. So that should qualify me to write this blog. Hey, maybe I should for a political office. Been there done that.
It was fun, too. I met and heard from a lot of people and their concerns still need to be voiced. The community needs to hear from you, and hear your ideas to make Dundalk a destination. Maybe for a day, maybe for a lifetime. Does that sound like a commercial?
Ok, let's get some thoughts on the Dundalk. What if...? Have you visited somewhere and said why don't we have that in Dundalk? Why don't we have a restaurant like that? Why don't we have an original largest "something" in Dundalk? Where are the visitors and tourists? What do we have to lure someone to get off the Beltway or I-95 and "come on down" and see what we got.
Can you tell me where's the best place to eat or visit? The best rec council, best school, best memories, best times, best friends? We have history, food, great places, great times. Give us some ideas to put the "WOW" in Dundalk.
'Til next time. HOOAHH. (Can you tell me what that means?)

I know what HOOAHH means, anything and everything except no. Military wife and NG Contractor here. :-) I agree, people need to want to go back to Dundalk. I defend Dundalk just like I do my own siblings. No one else may talk about them, except me, because they are a part of me. LOL Here are my opinions on what you have asked for.....
Best place to eat - for me personally it was always Crab Net (now gone), Scoozzi's and Squire's
Crabs - Salty Dog or Costas
Park - Merritt Park or Chesterwood Park
Rec Co - West Inverness for Dance
Great times - ANY Neighborhood while digging out of a blizzard, mine however was the best, on Nevill Road in West Inverness
Great holidays - Fourth of July by far is the best in Dundalk; I often preach to my military friends how patriotic Dundalk is and always has been. Let's not ever change that; our men and women need support now more than ever as do their Families who are living in our neighborhoods - I will keep working it on my end with the Guard if you all promise to keep working it right here at home. Ask that wife if she needs help with the grass cutting or snow shoveling; it means more than you will ever know.

Hey Jennifer, right on. I hope the younger generation reads your comment. If all of them acted like the military family support system we would be a great community.

Well, I am not a 'native,' but I've lived in Dundalk for the past 8 years and my 3 children have only really known Dundalk as their hometown. (I grew up in Baltimore City--Armistead, of which Dundalk has become an extension, as many of my old neighbors now reside in Dundalk!) Anywho, I would love to see some of the bigger chain stores and restaurants come to Dundalk rather than take up space in Middle River and White Marsh, AHEM TARGET, KOHLS, OUtback, FIVE GUYS! OH we have is Walfart, opps Wal-Mart I mean, Big lots and Ollies. Wow! Really?
Besides that, we've got some of the BEST places to get seafood AND snowballs (hello, STOUTENS? :) Our parks, such as Merritt Point and Chesterwood are mostly waterfront (and the cost ZERO dollars to get in to), and our Recreation Programs, for the most part, are relatively affordable and ran great. There is never a weekend you don't see some sort of youth sport event going on somewhere 'round town.
That said,I really think the appeal of Dundalk would be better if everyone would take pride in where they live. When the elderly man down the street is cleaning out the gutters, go out and help him! If you see litter on the street, pick it up. When you pass someone on a walk, smile and say, "How are you?"

First, We need to clean house when Election Day comes. We have been promised bigger and brighter things for Dundalk. With the current elected officials, they have not delivered on their promises. Look at our decaying businesss!!! It's never going to change if we don't get rid of the good ole boys. CLEAN House and START fresh. 1. I would love to have nice stores come to Dundalk. Over the years, we have lost The Limited, NY& Company, The Gap,Dairy Queen. SO I would love to see Old Navy, Target, Ginos(which I believe we will be getting one) A big grocery store to rival Mars and Giant. Perhaps a Safeway.
2. A YMCA that offers everything that Towson offers. So many people would love to go to Zumba classes, Fitness classes that don't cost a monthly membership.
3. A Fridays, a Best Buy...
All in all, We needed businesses that anchor the area..Not watered down stores like Burlington, Sears who offers very little compared to their other stores. We need a super walmart.
WHAT WE DON"T NEED...While I love the Dollar Tree..We don't need more. OR Nail Salons.....or liquidation buy out stores.
I hope that everyone remembers that on Election Day...

Michelle, It would be great for the Dundalk voters to want to make a move to bring some new ideas to the table. There have been plenty of improvements in Baltimore County but not in Dundalk. When is the last time a bond bill was introduced for Dundalk.
Will everyone remember on election day? We will see.
