Blog: Kamenetz Keeps Promise On Crosswalk To The NPCC

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz kept his word to members of the North Point Community Council by installing a pedestrian crosswalk in front of the Food Lion grocery store at 7514 North Point Road.

The topic regarding the lack of a crosswalk at that location came up at the NPCC April 18th general membership meeting.  In response to the question, Mr. Kamenetz said that the following day he would give the director of public works two weeks to rectify the situation.

In follow-up comment to my blog, I wrote that I would be down there with my camera to record the outcome of the crosswalk after the two week period.  The pictures will attest that Mr. Kamenetz was true to his word.  In addition to that, I think it also reveals the cooperation between the citizens and the elected officials when the lines of communication are opened.

Seeing is believing! Now if we all followed this credo.

Thanks to the County Exec. and the NPC who have been pursuing this for years. Let's hope motorists stop, as required by law, for the seniors who will be using this crosswalk. Thanks also to you Buzz for the coverage.

Buzz,

Honorable that you kept your word on this; just as the C.E. did. Well done.

This is great to see. Even though the road isn't very wide, perhaps they could install speed barriers near there like they did on Church Road near the Gov't Center?

Karebear, under the law, motorist are to stop and yield to any pedestrians in the cross walk. Unfortunately this is always not the case.

I'll try and check with BC Traffic Engineering to see what the qualifications are in that area.

They are also supposed to STOP at stop signs before proceeding through an intersection, but in my own experience, some believe it is optional. I am just glad that some initiative has started to safeguard people wishing to walk to the store.
