Super Saturdays and Home Grown Veggie Contest at the Dundalk Farmers' Market

Have you been growing a tomato the size of your head? Can a zucchini in your garden be mistaken for a baseball bat? Have you had a hankering for some farm fresh eggs?  Well do we have the Saturday for you!

The Dundalk Renaissance Corporation (DRC) and the Back River Restoration Committee (BRRC) is hosting the 2nd Annual Home Grown Veggie Contest and Rain Barrel Sale as part of the 1st SUPER SATURDAY at the Dundalk Farmers’ Market on July 21, at 9 a.m.

Hopefully, you already know the Dundalk Chamber of Commerce hosts the farmers’ market every Saturday until November from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Dundalk Village Shopping Center on Shipping Place behind the Post Office.

The market is a great way to stock your fridge, purchase healthy foods and shop local.

This year the DRC has parented with the Chamber to host SUPER SATURDAYS at the Dundalk Farmers’ Market. There will be 3 Super Saturdays, starting with the July 21 Grown Your Own Veggie Contest. You will find a Doggie Day Super Saturday on September 8 and a TBD theme Super Saturday on November 10. In addition to the regular great vendors of the market, these Saturdays will host kid’s activities from the Y Aquatic Center at Dundalk, health information from Johns Hopkins Bayview, some light entertainment and more. These Saturdays will also host additional vendors selling items like coffee, cupcakes and other sweet treats. We continue to work on growing the vendor base, so please let us know if you have something to sell or ideas!

We can’t wait to kick off these SUPER SATURDAYS with the Home Grown Veggie Contest! Thanks to CAS Scale Corporation we have a high-tech scale with a label printer to weigh the largest tomato, zucchini, and ‘anything goes’ veggie! The largest of each category will receive a gift card to a local garden or hardware store and a free rain barrel! Registration will open at 9 a.m., weigh in will take place at 9:30 a.m. and the winners should be announced at 10 a.m.

Even if you do not have veggies to showcase we encourage you to stop by to learn more about the benefits of a rain barrel. We will be selling rain barrels for the VERY discounted price of only $55!

Rain barrels are a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to green your home. They can lower your water bill, help decrease pollution in the Chesapeake Bay, and attach to any hose to easily water your plants!

We hope you will join us July 21 to get a taste of all the great items at the Dundalk Farmers’ Market!

The poster is advertising the rain barrels for $55.00 and the picture of the rain barrels have a price on them of $40.00. When I was at the fair I was told that they would be $40.00. What's up with that??
