Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

About this column:

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Dundalk Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:
This week you can escape to the Mediterranean! Well, your taste buds can. Baltimore is hosting its first-ever Greek Week, launched this week and concluding this Sunday, March 27. With 24 restaurants participating, you can sample everything from the casual Double T Diner’s spinach pie, moussaka, stuffed grape leaves and feta cheese, to the classy Black Olive’s kleftico. What’s kleftico? It’s tender roasted lamb with lemon and cheese over couscous. Hungry? Good. ‘Cuz you know there’s baklava for dessert. In Dundalk, the Boulevard Diner, at 1660 Merritt Blvd., is partipating, as well as Scoozi’s…
If you want to know who's in charge of the submarine world, sail no further than Captain Harvey's Submarines. Captain Harvey's is known to be the very best sub shop in Dundalk and Baltimore. This neighborhood carryout (not an eat-in carryout) has been located in the Logan Village Shopping Center for more than 50 years. Aside from the fact that it's a community landmark, I'd heard that they sell the best subs—ever! "Best cheesesteak in Baltimore," said J.C. Chung, who bought Captain Harvey's three years ago from Steve Sharon, grandson of the original owners. So, my friends and I, not native …
You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Dundalk Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that's worth checking out. Here's this week's choice: Costas Inn Overview: Locally owned for 40 years by the Triantafilos family, the Costas Inn remains a Dundalk institution. Voted Best Crap Soup by the City Paper, Best Crab House by Baltimore magazine, as well as Best Pit Beef by Baltimore magazine in the past, and recognized by Zagat’s with an “excellent” rating, the Costas Inn combines warm, friendly …
Here's this week's choice: Zorba’s Bar and Grill Overview: Recently, Patch queried occasional contributor Rafael Alvarez, a former Baltimore Sun writer  as well as the author of The Fountain of Highlandtown, for Greektown recommendations. In no particular order, he suggested Samos, Ikaros and Zorba’s. We tried Zorba’s first. Décor: Busy, long bar, filled with regulars when you first step in. Several tables in the back on the first floor offer a glimpse of the kitchen and the rotisserie-style cooking over hot charcoal. Well-lit, noisy and casual downstairs. The upstairs dining room is quieter …
Here's this week's choice: Squire’s Italian Restaurant Overview: Squire’s is known for serving the best pizza – eaten in or for delivery – in Dundalk. Family-owned for 50 years, the restaurant is run by Bob and Lorenzo Romiti. Service is friendly and warm, and the front-room bar, separated from the main dining area, remains a popular local watering hole. Décor: Warm and inviting, well-lit and open, with a mix of tables and booths. The Drinks: Beer, wine menu, and liquor. Soft drinks and Italian sparking water. Appetizers: Italian starters include garlic bread (whole order: $4), mozzarella …
You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Dundalk Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that's worth checking out. Here's this week's choice: Papa Leone’s Spaghetti House Overview: Papa Leone’s is known for its classic, intimate setting and tasty home-style Italian cuisine. Family-owned and family-friendly for more than 50 years, Papa Leone’s serves the same recipes of their Sicilian grandmothers. My own Sicilian great-grandmother (now passed) made spaghetti and meatballs every Sunday. She would'…
