The King and I at CCBC Essex
Cockpit in Court kicks off its 40th season with Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I, one of the best-loved musicals of all time.
Performed June 15 – July 1 on the Mainstage in Building B at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard, this family musical will have you singing familiar tunes like “Getting to Know You.”
Take the journey to 1862 as the British widow Anna becomes a tutor, advisor and unlikely friend to the extravagant and charming King of Siam.
Entrenched in their cultural ways, the two struggle to find common ground but learn to understand, respect and eventually love each other.
Nancy Parrish Asendorf (Catonsville, Md.) plays Anna the adventurous Englishwoman hired to serve as governess and tutor to the King’s many children.
James Handakas (Glen Rock, Pa.) plays the extravagant King who is seeking to bring Western culture to his country. They are joined by a wonderful cast of local actors who will bring this Tony Award winning musical to life.
The King and I is the fifth stage musical of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. The work is based on the 1944 novel “Anna and the King of Siam” by Margaret Landon.
