A Great Night for a Concert in the Park

The entertainment on this night was Impulse and the Junior Blues Brothers.

The sun peeked through the clouds just enough at Dundalk's Heritage Park  to make for pleasant weather Thursday as  Concerts in the Park continued its live entertainment series.

On this night,  Impulse and the Junior Blues Brothers were headlining the third in a series that is being held every Thursday through Aug. 18.

Sponsored by the Dundalk/Eastfield Rec Council and organized by Angel Ball, this series is a favorite among locals. Dennis McCarty, a lifelong Dundalk resident, has been coming since the early years of the series.

“I’ve come probably the past 15, 16 years. I come every week,” McCarty said.

Along with the music, sumertime fare is sold, including Chick-fil-A sanwiches,  hot dogs and snowballs.

The family-oriented event attracts folks of all ages to Heritage Park’s newly renovated Pagoda.

Mark Hoffman is another Dundalk resident who makes coming to these shows part of his regular routine.

“We come weekly," Hoffman said. “It’s the first year in two years. We took a two-year break.”

Carla Nieves from Watersedge was at her first Concert in the Park and was curious to see the show Impulse would put on.

“This is our first one. We’ve come in years past but this is the first one this year.” Nieves added. “We came to see Impulse. That’s the reason we’re here.”

Impulse rocked the crowd with a slew of classic rock and oldies favorites as people danced throughout the show.

The Junior Blues Brothers made a grand entrance riding up to the Pagoda in a replica police car a la the Blues Brothers in the movie of the same name. The duo was dressed in the movie characters' trademark matching suits, hats and cool sunglasses.

They played songs such as "Soul Man" and others that the original Blues Brothers made popular in the movie plus other classic rock and blues numbers.

Angel Ball volunteers her time to put on the event. She books the bands and organizes the vendors.

“It’s a lot of work but I want to make it nice for the community.” Ball said. “I want it to be big. I want it to be the biggest Concerts in the Park there is.”
