Baltimore County Under Tornado Watch Monday

The National Weather Service issued the alert for much of Maryland and Virginia.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Baltimore County through 5 p.m.

A strong cold front is expected to move into the mid-Atlantic region today, according to the NWS. Showers and isolated thunderstorms could produce heavy rainfall this afternoon, accompanied by the possibility of localized flooding, mainly in urban areas.

Isolated tornadoes and damaging winds are possible with any thunderstorms that develop, according to NWS meteorologists.

A coastal flood advisory is in effect through this evening on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

Boaters should be aware that a small craft advisory is in effect for all area waters. That advisory remains in effect through tonight for the mid-Chesapeake Bay and lower tidal Potomac River areas.
