Dundalk Library Staffer Wins State Award

North Point Library circulation assistant Laura Cole was honored by the Maryland Library Association.

North Point Library branch circulation manager Laura Cole was among three Baltimore County Public Library system representatives honored recently by the Maryland Library Association.

Cole received the professional association's Outstanding Paraprofessional Award in recognition of her many years of leadership and membership with the group, according to a press release from the county library system.

The state association also honored BCPL director Jim Fish with its Outstanding Member Award in  honor of his sustained support of the organization.

Fish has served on the association's legislative panel for more than 10 years and, under his leadership, the county's library system has been a "significant supporter" of the state association, according to the statement.

Fish has led the county library system since 1996.

Jeffrey Smith, president of the Foundation for Baltimore County Public Library board and a member for the system's Board of Trustees, was named the state association's Outstanding Volunteer Award winner for his service to and advocacy of BCPL and libraries throughout Maryland, according to the statement.

"BCPL would like to congratulate Mr. Fish, Ms. Cole and Mr. Smith on their awards," library spokesman Joshua McCready said in the statement.
