Dundalk Man Claimed $1 Million Powerball Prize

The Maryland Lottery reported that a Dundalk retiree was one of two big winners.

A Dundalk man didn't hit the jackpot this week, but he came close.

A 68-year-old Dundalk native who matched five of the six numbers in Saturday's Powerball drawing claimed one of two $1 million Powerball tickets sold in Maryland, according to Maryland Lottery officials. The other winner, a Westminster family, came forward Friday afternoon.

The man from Dundalk was a retiree who wished to remain anonymous.

On Sunday, as he was picking up his tickets for the week at the Merritt Boulevard Giant, the 68-year-old Dundalk man realized that he was a winner, lottery officials said.

"While scanning that ticket, a message came across the screen that the ticket needed to be claimed at lottery headquarters," according to a statement from the Maryland Lottery.

“I immediately asked the cashier what that meant,” the man reportedly said. “She told me that she didn’t know how much I won, but it was probably pretty big.”

The man told lottery officials that he plays the same numbers for each drawing and plans to continue, putting his winnings from the $1 million ticket in the bank.

The Dundalk Giant will receive $2,500 for selling one of the winning tickets.

The second $1 million ticket was sold in Taneytown, according to the Maryland Lottery. There was no jackpot winner matching all six numbers.

Congratulations to the winner. My one suggestion to you is take the money and leave this state.

This is odd. Reading the morning McPaper on my iPad they didn't mention that one of the $1,000,000.00 winning tickets was sold in Maryland.
