Dundalk Patch Year in Review: February 2011

Feb. 4:

U.S. District Court Judge Benson E. Legg sentenced Charles Pijanowski, 30, of Dundalk, to 66 months in prison, followed by supervised release for life, for distribution of child pornography. 

Legg also ordered Pijanowski to register as a sex offender in the place where he resides, where he is an employee, and where he is a student, under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

Feb. 6:

Police in the Department of Natural Resources found an illegal fishing net off the southern coast of Kent Island filled with anywhere from three tons to 10 tons of rockfish. Either way, it took a couple of boats to haul in this historically illegal catch, which the Baltimore Sun sighted as the largest illegal take of striped bass in the last 25 years.

Feb. 9:

A federal jury convicted Nikolaos Mamalis, 54, of Edgewood, of conspiring to commit a series of armed commercial and home robberies between July and November 2009, and brandishing a gun during a crime of violence.

Feb 18:

Five men were arrested after undercover Baltimore County vice detectives gained access into ongoing illegal poker games at the Lynch Point Social Club.

Lt. Robert McCullough, a county police spokesman, said that for at least the past year, if not more, Texas Hold 'Em games were held regularly at the Lynch Point Social Club in the 3100 block of Roger Road, where five organizers made as much as $1,500 in profit a night.

Feb. 27:

Sparrows Point wrestled to a second-place overall finish in this weekend's 1A/2A North Regional Championship held at Dundalk, advancing five grapplers to the state tournament in the process.
