Edgemere Green Society Needs Help with Cleanup
New North Point peninsula beautification committee will hold its first cleanup effort Sunday in the center of Edgemere.
The newly formed Edgemere Green Society will hold its first cleanup Sunday and there's still plenty of room for additional volunteers, according to organizers.
Founded by Jim Davis and Erin Volz, the group is looking for volunteers willing to donate two hours once a month to clean a different one-mile stretch of roadway in Edgemere.
In this first effort, volunteers will meet at 1 p.m. at the now-closed Shallow Creek Bookstore Cafe (7216 North Point Road) to organize and start cleaning, according to a Facebook message from Davis.

Asked if the program was modeled after the state's well-known Adopt-a-Highway program, Davis said local residents shouldn't look at it that way.
"Well, if locals get involved, they aren't really adopting anything," he said in an online conversation. "They are merely stepping up to take better care of what is already theirs."

The Dundalk Renaissance Corp. and the Back River Restoration Committee have donated most of the supplies needed for the cleanup, according to Davis.
Volunteers should dress to get dirty, and reserve some time to go out to a local restaurant afetrward.
