Grab & Go Kids Planner, Sept. 9-15

We've dug up some upcoming events both parents and children will enjoy. Our Grab & Go Kids Planner will point you to places to take your kids each weekend.

Parents mutter about not having enough time to do the things we want/need to do. It’s particularly frustrating when we carve out free time but can’t find anything interesting to do with our kids. Patch will help you out each week by providing a Grab and Go list of upcoming events and activities that are parent/child friendly.  

  • Sept. 9, Imagination & Creation Exploration. Theme: Things that go “boom.” Ages 5-8. Prepare to be blasted off with big sounds and cool chemical reactions. Learn about what makes rockets zoom and thunder boom. Maryland Science Center, Kids Room. 3 p.m. 410-685-5225.
  • Sept. 10. Live From the Sun. Discover the secrets of the Sun in this live broadcast every Saturday from the Crosby Ramsey Memorial Observatory. Check out sunspots, solar storms, flares, and prominences.  Maryland Science Center. Noon. 410-685-5225.
  • Sept. 10, Computer Time. For ages 13+ to use the library computer room to work independently. Resv. suggested. 1:30-4:30 p.m. Recurring on Saturdays. Baltimore County Library, North Point, 1716 Merritt Blvd., 410-887-7255.
  • Sept. 11, Workshop: Design Wearable Sculptures. Part of Family Sundays featuring Spectacular Sculptures in September at the Baltimore Museum of Art. FREE for families. 2-5 p.m., 10 Art Museum Drive, 443-573-1700.
  • Sept. 13, Unplugged. It’s an open mic nite for teens age 11-17. Share your creative writing and performing skills. Registration starts at 6:30, performance at 7 p.m. Baltimore County Library, North Point, 1716 Merritt Blvd., 410-887-7255.
  • Sept. 13-18, Dark Matters. The dark, empty space between the stars in galaxies contains mysterious “dark matter” and "dark energy." Explore these Dark Matters at the Maryland Science Center. Times vary by day. 410-685-5225.
  • Sept. 13-18, One World, One Sky, Big Bird’s AdventureFollow Sesame Street's Big Bird and Elmo as they explore the night sky with Hu Hu Zhu, a Muppet from Zhima Jie, the Chinese co-production of Sesame Street. Together, they take an imaginary trip from Sesame Street to the moon, where they discover how different it is from Earth. Maryland Science Center, Planetarium. 1 p.m. 410-685-5225.
  • Sept. 14, Preschool Story Time. Ages. 2-5 w/adult. Interact with your child to nurture a love of reading by enjoying stories, activities and songs together. 10:30 a.m. Baltimore County Library, North Point, 1716 Merritt Blvd., 410-887-7255.  Recurring every Wednesday.
  • Sept. 14, Pirate Story Time. Ahoy, mateys!  Come to this special story time and learn how to talk like a pirate while enjoying pirate stories.  2-5 years old, w/adult. 10:30 a.m. Baltimore County Library, North Point, 1716 Merritt Blvd., 410-887-7255.
