Mr. Potato Head Makes His Edgemere Debut

Edgemere brothers Scott and David Wendler have outdone themselves with the construction of a huge Pez dispenser as Halloween approaches.

The Wendler brothers of Edgemere are at it again.

Scott and David Wendler, who live next to each other on North Point Road, have been making the neighborhood smile for years with their creative and extravagant yard displays that pay homage to a variety of holidays throughout the year.

In May, I published a picture of the "Endless Summer" car, laden with every piece of summer and beach equipment known to mankind, that ushered in Memorial Day weekend.

In the many years that I have paid attention to the displays, Scott and David have built a movie theater (complete with a box office manned by Elvis Presley), a huge turkey, too many holiday characters to name (or remember) and even poked fun at home arts diva Martha Stewart with a Camp Cupcake reference the year she served time in a federal prison for lying to investigators about a stock sale.

One year, when the community was up to its neck fighting a proposed liquefied natural gas plant, the Wendlers built a huge crab pot that was fueled by LNG, as represented by bright yellow pipelines feeding into the pot.

Often, an early fall display is added to as it morphs into a display for Halloween, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and then Christmas.

This year, the brothers have built a huge Pez dispenser topped by Mr. Potato Head.

I'm especially drawn to this display, because I collect Pez dispensers — I have hundreds (though much smaller than this one, of course!).

If this is the beginning of another morphing holiday display, I look forward to what comes next and I'll keep you posted.
