Baltimore City Department of Public Works crews are on the scene of an apparent water main break in the 600 block of Wise Avenue.

The Wise Avenue bridge over Bear Creek is closed, and could remain closed over night, depending on the severity of the problem, according to DPW spokesman Kurt Kocher.

"It's apparently a water main break, but it could be just a valve," Kocher said in a phone interview. "Depending on what the problem is, we might have to keep the bridge closed for safety reasons; they're calling for icing tonight, and crews will be out there working."

Kocher said the extent of the damage and the scope of the work won't be known until crews can get in and assess the situation.
