Possible Water Main Break Closes Wise Avenue Bridge

Baltimore City Public Works crews are on the scene assessing the problem.

UPDATED (5:38 p.m.)—A 12-inch water main at Waterview Road and Wise Avenue is broken, according to Baltimore City Department of Public Works spokesman Kurt Kocher.

The number of residents impacted by the break is not yet known. Crews are on the scene working on the broken pipe.

Original report:

Baltimore City Department of Public Works crews are on the scene of an apparent water main break in the 600 block of Wise Avenue.

The Wise Avenue bridge over Bear Creek is closed, and could remain closed over night, depending on the severity of the problem, according to DPW spokesman Kurt Kocher.

"It's apparently a water main break, but it could be just a valve," Kocher said in a phone interview. "Depending on what the problem is, we might have to keep the bridge closed for safety reasons; they're calling for icing tonight, and crews will be out there working."

Kocher said the extent of the damage and the scope of the work won't be known until crews can get in and assess the situation.

Any updates two days later? Is the stupid bridge open or not?
