TESTIMONY: North Point Center Plan Offers New Opportunities

The Baltimore County Council will vote on three contacts of sale at its Dec. 2 legislative session.

Greater Dundalk and Towson residents spoke out against the proposed sale of Baltimore County-owned properties in their communities at a Baltimore County Council work session Nov. 26.

Baltimore County officials are proposing the sale of county-owned properties in the two communities as well as Randallstown. In Dundalk, the property for sale is that of the North Point Government Center at the corner of Wise Avenue and Merritt Boulevard.

County council members are scheduled to vote on the contracts at their next legislative session Dec. 2.

West Inverness resident Cary Quintana submitted the following excerpt from his testimony he gave at the meeting:

"Finally, as a small business owner, we have discovered from our customers in the last 2 months that Dundalk  is starving for varied retail, daily we hear from our customers who are overwhelmingly from Dundalk how much they miss local shopping, that they miss being able to just walk down the street to brows the shops or pick up gifts particularly in this holiday season.

"All of which not only enrich the arts or enhance our community, but are continual draws for revenue from outside of our county.

"It comes down to this, concern for the unknown, fear of change, but  of every neighborhood I have lived in, in every state to which I have moved, growth is required for continued success just as doing nothing will result in decay. I am asking you to approve and go forward with the plan so that you can provide us with those tools and allow to us build our community."
