Concerts in the Park: 4 on the Floor with Overdrive

Santa Claus will attend this month's concerts to celebrate Christmas in July.

If you happen to spot Santa Claus in Heritage Park this week and he's wearing beach apparel, do not panic.

You are not hallucinating, you have not stepped in to a time warp and you do not need to have your eyes examined.

To celebrate Christmas in July, concert organizers will put up a Christmas tree and they have persuaded Santa to give up a few vacation days to work the remaining Thursday night concerts scheduled this month, according to organizer Angel Ball.

Last week, Santa was a big hit, according to Ball.

"Santa showed up in flip-flops and shorts with his boogie board because he's coming off vacation to be with us," she said Wednesday. "We're trying to get more families to come out to the concerts, and Santa helps."

This Thursday, 4 on the Floor with Overdrive will take the park's gazebo stage.

Christmas in July will conclude on July 25 with a performance by Rock Ridge.

Concerts will also be held the first four Thursdays in August, according to Ball.

The free musical offerings begin at 6:30 p.m. each Thursday, weather permitting. Music lovers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and the entire family.

While the weather is hot and humid this week, Ball said it's "very pleasant" to sit under a tree at Heritage Park to enjoy the music.

"It really is quite cool under the trees," she said.

Refreshments, including snowballs, popcorn, water, soda, hotdogs, Chick-fil-A chicken sandwiches and fruit salads by Edible Arrangements will be available for purchase.
