Dundalk Native, Elmo Highlight Washington Monument Lighting

Kevin Clash, of Turner's Station, was the guest of honor at the 39th annual lighting of the Washington Monument in Mount Vernon.

Baltimore's 39th annual lighting of the Washington Monument in Mount Vernon on Thursday night drew more than 5,000 people from around the region, from Dundalk to Towson. And at least two visitors who came all the way from Sesame Street.

Elmo, the iconic red muppet from "Sesame Street," was a guest of honor at the ceremony with his "friend," performer Kevin Clash. Clash, 50, grew up in Dundalk and went on to join the crew of Sesame Street. He's performed Elmo since 1982.

While onstage, Elmo performed an original Baltimore-themed holiday song.
