Henrietta Lacks Scholarship Fundraiser: Being Elmo: A Puppeteteer's Journey

Henrietta Lacks Scholarship Fundraiser: Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey

Join us in the John E. Ravekes Theatre, K Building, at CCBC-Dundalk where Elmo and his creator, Kevin Clash, will be appearing at the premeire of his documentary, Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey, to help raise money for the Henrietta Lacks scholarship Fund for students majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) at CCBC.

Lacks was a Turner Station resident who died at age 31 of cervical cancer. When Johns Hopkins removed her cervical cells for research, they discovered that the cells survived longer than any before. Today, HeLa cells are used to create the polio vaccine and for research on AIDS, cancer and the effects of radiation on cells.
