Patapsco High Nearing its 50th Anniversary. Has anything changed?

Patapsco High (the other School in dundalk)is approaching its 50th anniversary.

Patapsco High School is coming up on its golden anniversary. The big 5-0 in 2013.

It's a school built in the 1960's to meet the overcrowding of Dundalk High School after it "absorbed" the students from the forced closure of Sollers Point High ( integration).

For all you alumni out there from Patapsco High, I can assure you that there will be an event. If you want to be a part of it stay tuned.

So what has changed at the home of the Patriots? In 50 years there has been no new additions. Don't count the auditorium or third hall. Same windows and bathroom fixtures.   of which most don't work. Of the eight air circulators in the gym only one works. You talk about hot!

The athletic fields have three sets of bleachers that should be trashed so all spectators stand to view sporting events. Sparrows Point has a bowl, Dundalk does too but they are removing it for the new school. Maybe they can throw them bleachers over to Patapsco to use.

The fans in the cafeteria don't work anymore. Let's not forget that Patapsco did get a new roof and boiler a few years back. They had to tear up the parking lots to put in the boiler. So the parking lots look like the roads in Afghanstan with all the craters and holes.

There is no parking for students so they kinda luck out and have to work with the neighborhood in sharing the streets. When there is one of the great events at Patapsco, parking for visitors is non-existent. The design of the school has to be the worst in the BCPS history.

What makes it worse is that Patapsco is in the top six newest high schools in the county.   Yes. After the new Dundalk/Sollers Point Schools are finished, Patapsco will drop to 8th and still have had no renovations in 50 years. What is the plan?  There isn't one.

The renovations for Patapsco has been pushed back 10 years. Sparrows Point has been bleesed with much needed renovations. Dundalk and Sollers will get a new school.

Patapsco will rise to the challenge and perform in the face of adversity and the empty promises of local officials. Elections are over and Dunalk is getting,  not one, but two new schools. That takes the heat off of everyone. Speaking of  heat, Patapsco has very few air conditioned classrooms. Most are trailers but they are taken four of them away.

Patapsco alumni need to come out of the woodwork. Let's make the 50th anniversary a grand event. What are your ideas to make it memorable? What are your memories. Jump on and let's do this.
