Applebee's to Veterans: Have a 'Thank You' Meal on Us

Applebee's has discovered that a great way to say thanks to a military veteran on Veterans Day is to offer a free meal.

For the fifth year, the casual American restaurant chain will salute the nation's military on Veteran's Day by serving an estimated 1 million free meals to both veterans and active-duty military personnel, according to a statement from the chain.

"For the fifth straight year, Applebee's is proud to say 'Thank You' to our veterans and active duty military on Veterans Day," Jeff Warden, president and CEO of The Rose group, said in a press release. "Each year, service menbers gather in our restaurants to share stories, meet up with old friends and make new ones."

The Veterans Day menu lists several signature and favorite items, including the seven-ounce house sirloin; bacon cheddar cheeseburger; fiesta lime chicken and double crunch shrimp meals, according to the statement.

Guests will need to provide proof of service, which includes a U.S. Unifoorm Service Identification Card, a U.S. Uniform services retired Identification Card, current leave and earnings statement, a veterans organization membership card, a photograph in unifier, a DD214 form, citation to commendation.

The offer is good for dine-in services only. Traditional sides are included with the free meals. The chain's 2 for $20 appetizers, upgraded side items or extras, beverages, desserts and gratuities are not included.

Locally, veterans and active-duty military members can take advantage of the offer at the Applebee's at Eastpoint Mall.

The Eastpoint Applebee's will open an hour earlier than normal on Monday —at 10 a.m. instead of 11—and will be open until midnight.

Send a personal "Thank You" message

Applebee's is also asking residents to visit their local restaurant's Facebook page to enter a "thank you" message to veterans.

The messages will be tracked and counted in real time, according to the corporate statement.

The Applebee's community with the most messages will be declared the Most Thankful Neighbohood and will win the privilege of hosting a Gavin DeGraw concert in their community.

Dundalk-area residents can post a thank you message at the Eastpoint Applebee's Facebook page.
