'Swine' BBQ Stand Opens in Edgemere—If Only on Sundays

After overcoming a few obstacles, Steve and Lorraine Austin have finally opened their new pit beef stand in Edgemere.

This Swine's for You, the couple's traveling barbecue stand and catering business, is setting up permanent shop at 7216 North Point Road, formerly the site of Shallow Creek Bookstore Cafe.

The Austins, who refer to themselves as "certified pigologists" on their website, originally planned to open the store on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. But because of a busy catering schedule, the shop will be open only on Sundays for now, Steve Austin said.

On Sunday, the pit was set up outside the shop on the front parking lot, and customers were encouraged to take their meals inside, where they could sit and eat.

"The air conditioning is on," Steve Austin said to customers in line. "Helps beat this Baltimore heat and humidity."

This Swine's for You offers pit beef, pork, ham and turkey, along with cole slaw and baked beans. Once the storefront business is up and running on a more regular schedule, the menu will expand to include grilled chicken breast, sweet and hot sausages, salads and other items, Austin said.
