The system of democracy relies upon the public making its collective voice heard by those in power. Today, I am happy to announce that the public has a chance to speak out on a particularly volatile issue – the North Point Government Center.
The law firm of Smith, Gildea & Schmidt has announced that a Post Submission Community Meeting (PSCM) on the development of the Government Center will be held on Thursday, April 10. The PSCM will take place from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Dundalk High School, located at 1901 Delvale Avenue in Dundalk. People attending the meeting are invited to arrive at 5:30 PM for an informal viewing of the plans submitted to the county by the developer.
The PSCM will be conducted by the PUD applicant, Vanguard. The letter from the law firm states that the purpose of the PSCM is to share the planned unit development (PUD) applicant’s application with the community and provide a forum for the discussion and resolution of community concerns.

As you know from my previous blog posts, the sale of the Government Center has been, and continues to be, a very hot topic. Simply put, the decisions made regarding the Government Center will have a great impact on the community, especially when you consider the fact that the Government Center houses the North Point Police Precinct and other county agencies.
Now, just to make it clear, there will be no discussion regarding the approval of the project at this meeting. This PSCM meeting is simply a precursor to the actual PUD process.
If, at the time of the meeting, the county’s Snow Emergency Plan is in effect (and with this wild winter, a snow emergency is always a possibility), the meeting will be canceled.
