"Olszewski Out"

Councilman to steer clear of Government Center meeting

I would yell “stop the presses,” but—seeing how this is a blog—there are no presses to be stopped.

Still, it might have created a nice retro moment...

Anyway, on to the breaking news: sources have told me that Councilman John Olszewski Sr. will not attend the North Point Government Center meeting that will be held at the Dundalk High School on Thursday night.

My source said that the councilman does not want to interfere with the process that will allow the community members to make their own judgments without the influence of his office.

Color me pleasantly surprised.

After all, the councilman voted for the sale of the Government Center, which would have put a taint of influence on the meeting. Kudos to Mr. Olszewski Sr. for his belief that his attendance is not in the best interest of the community; I applaud that decision and believe that this meeting needs to be a chance for citizens to confront the issues that are important to them.

The word on the street is that every local candidate running for office in the district will attend the meeting. However, I hear that no elected officials will be in attendance, most likely taking a page from the Councilman’s playbook. (You know that play: “Stay on the sidelines.”)

Also I have heard that attendees should expect plenty of fireworks, as this will pit the DRC against Dundalk United, which opposes the sale of the Government Center.

Both Vanguard and its law firm—Gildea, Smith & Schmidt LLC—will be there to facilitate the meeting, which has been correctly titled a Post-Submission Community Meeting.

It will be a very interesting evening at the new Dundalk High School and will draw the lines in the sand … or the dust left over from the destruction of the Government Center. Whichever the case may be.

Stay tuned, folks…
