Stansbury Park Needs Your Votes

Jewel of Dundalk in national competition for $100,000 recreation grant

OK, readers, it’s time to show your community pride and help our beloved Stansbury Park get some much needed funding. And time is running short for this endeavor.

Let me explain…

Currently, Stansbury Park is part of a nationwide competition, sponsored by Coca-Cola, to recognize “America’s Favorite Park.” The winning park will receive a $100,000 recreation grant, while the three runners-up will get $50,000, $25,000, and $15,000 respectively.

Those numbers are rather impressive, don’t you think?

Thanks to the efforts of community activists Patricia Paul and Karen Kruz, the park has become one of the crown jewels of Dundalk. Pat and Karen have certainly done their part to add more sparkle to that jewel, and a recreation grant would certainly push the efforts even further.

And that is where you come in.

Voting in the contest is quite simple. Just go to this link and—with just a few clicks of your mouse (the one on your computer, not in a cage)—you can make a difference in your community. You can also vote via smartphone apps Foursquare and MapMyFitness, if you’re one of those technology inclined individuals. (In fact, the smartphone apps register 5 and 10 votes respectively, so it may be worth the download.)

Also, there July 13 and 14, the last weekend of the competition, each count as a Double Vote Day. So plan to log in at least once each day this weekend.

As of this writing, Stansbury Park is in 17th place in the competition. Let’s do what we can to put us in the top four, if not all the way to number one!

We all know that voting is a civic duty, and this is no exception! Every vote counts, so click the link and start tapping those keys. Or, for you smartphone users, feel free to be all thumbs!

You have to be at least 13 years old and a resident of the U.S. to participate.

On an interesting note while at the park snapping some photos for this blog I had a chance to meet the Derr family.

Josh Derr who now lives in Essex after growing up in Dundalk, never misses an opportunity to visit the park with his family.

Josh still stays very active in the Dundalk community saying he worked both the Heritage Fair and the Fire Works.

In addition to the Derr family I ran into some young teens, Steven, Quinton and Kerri who were picking up trash.  It was nice to see their community spirit.

How can this park not be a winner.  As they say - get out the vote!
