Colgate Makes Some Moves!

Colgate Community is tackling tough issues and calling for teamwork with other communities.

For a long time Colgate has been a hard-working, proud Dundalk community. We pay our bills, pay our taxes, raise our families, rumble and moan about the small issues that affect our lives, and now the Community Improvement Association has stepped up to take action on a few housekeeping issues.

Beginning in September, the CIA will start picking up bulk items for (depending on the item and size) a $5.00 to $10.00 donation to the association. CIA is getting ready to release its annual newsletter and all information will be included.

FYI: Pickup Service is FREE to current members of the Association. If you think about it, it's a great deal! You pay a $6 per year membership and get that old TV, couch or frig taken away to the dump at no additional cost. You also get to vote on community issues!

If you are interested in joining the Colgate Improvement Association – landlords are also encouraged to join, too – send a check or money order for $6 made out to Colgate Improvement Association. Include your name and address, number of people in the household, your phone number and email, to P.O. BOX 25776, Baltimore MD 21224.

We will send you a membership card in the mail. The membership card is also a discount card good at participating local businesses. See our website www.mycolgate.org for details.

Next is Neighborhood Cleanup Day. We will have the dumpsters in K-Mart's parking lot as usual. The date and time is available on our website. CIA is asking a $5 donation, or it's free to current members with membership card. In addition to the dumpsters, the CIA has asked our local community member, Terrapin Recycling, to come out and setup a portable scale.

Bring your old junk for the dumpster while turning that old metal file cabinet into a buck or two.

Next, CIA is planning a document shredding day. We’re thinking about having this event around tax time. Instead of a dumpster at K-Mart, we will have a shredding truck. Get your years of classified paperwork together, bring it down, and get it shredded for a donation to the Community Association. As usual, for current members with card it's free.

As you may or may not know, we have a rodent problem in Colgate.

Many of our Dundalk communities have this issue, too, so we want to meet with all the community leaders to talk about ways to approach this situation by working together. We are asking for a summit of all the local community association leaders to see how we can best tackle our unwanted guests. Colgate just began its program to help Baltimore County tackle this rat epidemic by initiating a program to self-treat.

We must work together to reach our common goal. Treating for rats is only one of many things we can do together as communities. Colgate is also launching our “Walk The Vote” program. We’ve put together a pamphlet to hand out door-to-door which lists the voting history and programs initiated by our local politicians. We also include follow up to these promises. CIA will be renting a van during election time to transport anyone who cannot drive for whatever reason to the polls. Our officers are all becoming voter registration distributors who can assist voters with the registration process.

Last but not least, Colgate Improvement Association is having its 3rd Community Flea Market in September. See website www.mycolgate.org  for complete details. Spaces are $10.00 but you need to bring your own table. Payment is required when the reservation is made. Send check or money order to Colgate Improvement Association, P.O. Box 25776, Baltimore, Md., 21224. Members do not get spaces for free. Get your space now, they go quick! That’s It for now. DO SOMETHING GOOD TODAY!
