Dundalk's 2011 Fourth of July Parade Photos & Videos

On Flickr, I have published a set of photographs and videos of Dundalk's 2011 Fourth of July Parade, featuring spectators and the neighborhoods of the parade route. I've also posted a set of photographs of people preparing for Dundalk's  2011 American Independance Day Celebration Parade.

When shooting the parade, I felt it was time that someone took lots of shots of most of the spectators who were watching the parade and also took good shots of all the neighborhoods where the parade passes.

Shortly before the parade began, I went down to where the parade begins – at Logan Village Shopping Center – and started shooting photos and video there. The staging of the parade, lining the parade entries up correctly, along with the parade participants preparation, is all part of the Independance Day Celebration, too. After the parade kicked off, I walked the entire parade route shooting photos and video all along the way.

For decades, I had wanted to do that. It's great to have finally done it, but I sure wish I'd have done it decades ago – when my body wouldn't have suffered so intensely. Because: two days before the parade I turned 61 years old and 38 years before the 2011 parade some big dummy ran a red light and knocked me off my motorcycle, causing me a lifetime of progressive pain. I used to love strapping on 55-plus pounds of a fully outfitted backpack and striking off on adventurous travels hitchhiking down or up the road plus hiking on foot out into the woods, which also put some wear 'n' tear on the body.

Consequently, on July 4, 2011, that all added up to me carrying an aching load of physical discomfort from about halfway along the parade route until nearly a week after the parade. Which is partly why I'm just getting the parade photography published nine days after the parade. But it was well worth it for achieving a longtime goal of photographing the entire Dundalk Fourth of July Parade route and most of the spectators.

I worked hard on editing, cropping and fine tuning the photographs. They are now, along with the videos, part of a permanent historic record of the 2011 Dundalk 4th of July Parade - featuring parade spectators, plus the parade route.
