Heritage Fair - Go Early Stay Late

I haven't attended the Dundalk Heritage Fair every year - even when I lived just up the street from it. I understand why many people haven't been to the Heritage Fair in years.  And there are some local people who have never been to the Fair.  But I encourage you folks who have never been, or for whom it's been a while, to go to the fair this year. I suggest going in the early afternoon, because daytime attendance has been sparse, and there's plenty to enjoy everyday at the fair.

The Heritage Fair packs in quite substantial audiences for the evening headline music acts. Some people travel many miles to see the world famous, often Grammy winning /Gold Record earning entertainers who still play great Rock and Roll or Country Music. That's on the main stage - Stage #1 Shipway. Over on Stage #2 Dunmanway, there are some rock solid music acts working hard for the audiences there, too. Those acts usually include a Blues band, Bluegrass band, Modern Country band, Oldies group,  and all the music there on Stage #2 - just like on Stage #1 - is good & tight.

The Heritage Fair draws in thousands of people. Dundalk is often compared to Towson (once even by the lead singer of a world famous band at the Heritage Fair), and the Towson Towne Festival draws a couple hundred thousand people to it. But! The music concerts at that Towson event are played by bands who are about on par with the groups who play on Stage #2 at the Dundalk event. Lots of people watch the afternoon concerts in Towson, but very few people watch the daytime bands at the Dundalk Heritage Fair. Which means there's usually plenty of room for you and yours to set up lawn chairs or blankets in front of the music stages in the afternoon. Plus! There are food stalls close to both stages.

I can't recall the name of the lady who has taken over bringing in Heritage Fair retail crafts vendors, but she has been carefully choosing them. As an example, last year I bought a Bansai Tree. For yourself or for gifts, those vendors - expect woodcraft, hand knitting, jewelry, pottery, etc, vendors - those vendors are nice people with mighty fine goods for sale. Sales are slow in the early afternoon, which is a smart time for local Dundalk residents to go to the Fair. What-the-heck, a lot of you live within easy walking distance and others of you know where the best parking is.

I encourage you to attend the Heritage Fair early in the afternoon, when there's plenty of room for you; and either enjoy a few hours there then head out before the larger numbers of folks come in for the headline music concerts or get your lawn chairs and blankets set up in front of Stage #1 or Stage #2, and have yourselves a rockin' great time in Dundalk Heritage Park that evening.

I fully undertand if you haven't been to the Heritage Fair for years or have never been to the fair. It's not for everyone every year, but this year may be your year to attend. Do an Internet search for "Dundalk Heritage Fair", find the fair's official web site, check the entertainment schedual, and go enjoy a good day in tree shaded and grass carpeted Dundalk Heritage Park.
