'Green Voter' Olszewski Jr. Endorsed by Conservation Group

The Maryland League of Conservation Voters has endorsed John Olszewski Jr. as he campaigns for the 6th District Maryland State Senate seat.

Noting his 88 percent lifetime score in voting on conservation issues, the Maryland League of Conservation Voters has endorsed John Olszewski Jr. in his bid for a seat in the Maryland Senate.

Three Senate seats and two House of Delegate seats are priority races for the organization, according to a statement from league officials. The endorsed candidates in those races present "exciting opportunities to put candidates with much stronger environmental recorded in all of those seats," according to the statement.

"These candidates will increase the conservation majority in the general Assembly," League Executive Director Karla Raettig said in the statement. "Marylanders care about our air, land and water and vote for candidates who lead on the environment."

In endorsing Olszewski for the 6th District seat, which is opening upon the retirement of longtime Sen. Norman Stone, Raettig called Olszewski a "champion for clean energy" and said the organization is "excited to endorse his move to the Senate."

Stone leaves office with a lifetime conservation voting score of 66 percent, according to the statement.

The organization bases its endorsement process on "proven leadership on the environment for incumbents and a thorough evaluation of new candidates' background and commitment to the environment," according to the statement.

The league also announced its endorsements of Guy Guzzone  (District 13 Senate seat), Veronica Turner (District 26 Senate seat), Sue Kullen (District 27C delegate seat) and  Brooke Lierman (District 46 delegate seat).
