Dundalk Artist Displays at Loch RAven Festival of the Arts

Dundalk resident Jesse Buckles will be displaying his artistic talents at the Loch Raven Festival of the Arts, a free music and visual arts enrichment celebration of creativity as it opens its second year on November 30, 2013 with a line up of musical presentations and art displays and provides an event for area communities to gather to kick off the holiday season.   The event takes place at 6622 Loch Raven Blvd from 1 to 5pm offering art and craft displays and a holiday decorations workshop for children at 1pm. Musical entertainment includes performances by Joyous Voices Christmas carolers at 2pm, the Baltimore Flute Choir at 3pm, and the Baltimore School for the Arts Brass Quintet at 4pm. The festival also offers a display table on Shen Yun, a premiere classical Chinese dance and music company visiting Baltimore in January. Based in New York, Shen Yun has a mission of “Reviving 5,000 years of civilization”. It will be showcasing its past performance video clips at the Arts Festival. Information and special tickets, with service fee waived, will be available for Shen Yun's January 2014 shows at the Baltimore Lyric or for performances at the Kennedy Center. Shen Yun is a beautiful artistic expression of colors and dance not to be missed.  And it is suggested to avoid the mall crowds and do some of your holiday shopping at the Festival, supporting local artists selling beautiful artworks , including Marty Levin, Joyce Venables, Dean Davis, Ellie Elgin and aviation artist Jesse Buckles.

Dundalk resident and aviation artist Jesse Buckles was inspired to create a mixed media art piece “Blue Angels Over Ft. McHenry” when the Blue Angels’ F/A-18 Hornets flew over Baltimore’s Fort McHenry during the Centennial Celebration of the War of 1812. This piece was selected for the juried International Aerospace Art Exhibition of the American Society of Aviation Artists displayed at the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport Terminal Gallery. Several of Buckles art pieces will be available for purchasing as a holiday gift.

Marty Levin is an accomplished artist whose flags, banners, signs, decorative houses, and Judaica can be seen in, and around, homes, businesses, and houses of worship. His flags have appeared in the movie "Taps" and in the TV mini-series "George Washington". Working in multiple mediums, each of his pieces is a uniquely crafted work of art, which can be customized extensively. His handcrafted house series "A Place in Time"  recreates historic buildings to modern
buildings.  Each brick is individually hand painted, each decorative piece of timber framing is individually carved and painted. Store signs are designed and hand painted with tiny brushes, and can be customized. Windows too are individually handmade - and at the customer's request, can be customized to have photos of family, friends, or business associates show through. Historical homes and stores, as well as modern buildings are available. Specific buildings (i.e. your own home, house of worship, or business) can be commissioned.

Dean Davis returns to the Festival for its second year and brings to his canvas beautiful colors and images of coastal scenes to home décor sets. Davis is also a talented actor/singer and his artistic skills for this event are transformed from the stage to the painting page.

Textile artist Joyce Venables will be displaying her handbag creations, a  talent mixing vibrant color combinations. Also available for purchasing as holiday gifts are her newest creations of inspirational boxes.

Ellie Elgin,  member at Pet Portrait Artists. specializes in creating oil or pastel portraits that integrate the time honored techniques of the masters with contemporary style. Ellie uses a personal approach in creating a one of a kind portrait whether you commission a portrait of yourself, a family member or the beloved family pet.

Curtis Waters brings his lighthouse paintings to the Festival, portraits that showcase a time honored classic piece of sea life. For enthusiasts of Maryland's coastal history, his paintings would make a very nice holiday gift.
Several artists will be having their art pieces showcased only and these talented folks include Isabel Aldana, Dolores Courtney, Sally Tarr, Janet Archer, Gabrielle Schwartz, Debi Wynn and students from the IMPROVE Child Development Center.

As the Festival falls in the holiday season, the event also includes an exhibit of Nativity Art, a collection of Manger scenes from modern creations to American

Indian art Manger scenes. Free admission and free parking. In the spirit of the holiday season, canned goods will be accepted which will benefit the Towson Assistance Center. For additional information call 410-825-0900 or email to tnhedutainment@aol.com.
