PUBLIC NOTICE OF A RESPONSE ACTION PLAN AND PUBLIC INFORMATIONAL MEETING


600 Shipyard Road, Sparrows Point, Baltimore County, Maryland 21219


The property located at 600 Shipyard Road, Sparrows Point, Maryland has been accepted into Maryland’s Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP).  A proposed Response Action Plan (RAP) has been submitted to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) for approval.  The contaminants of concern are metals (i.e., vanadium and manganese), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), diesel range organics (DRO), and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from past operations at the property including ship building, repair, and dismantling.  The proposed RAP includes measures to cap or remove impacted soils and prevent contact with shallow groundwater through institutional controls.

This RAP is based upon future use of the property for restricted industrial purposes.

All comments and requests must be received by the Department in writing no later than December 19, 2012 (5 business days after the public meeting).
