Jazzy, Classic, Out of This World: CCBC Holiday Offerings

The Community College of Baltimore County will offer many free or "family-friendly-priced" concerts, theater performances and a planetarium show throughout the winter holiday season.

I've never been one to help rush the pending holiday season, but I also know how time flies all year-round, let alone at this time of year.

So with that in mind, I give you advance notice of The Community College of Baltimore County's ambitious holiday season calendar of cultural and performing arts programs, concerts and performances.

Beginning Dec. 2, the college will offer a variety of free or "family-friendly" priced concerts, a planetarium show and theatrical performances, with musical selections including jazz performances, chamber singers and fundraising concerts benefitting the Dundalk Community Theatre and Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre.

Dec. 2

Jazz Plus: Annual Holiday Concert

12:20 pm, College Community Center, Second Level, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd.

The Jazz Plus Ensemble, under the direction of CCBC’s Emmy-winning faculty member Brian Comotto, will perform standard and original jazz and pop compositions as well as holiday favorites.

Dec. 6
Music Forum:  CCBC Chamber Singers

12:20 pm, Arts and Humanities Hall, Recital Hall, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd.

This select choral ensemble, under the direction of CCBC faculty member Monica Otal, will present diverse music of the holiday season.

Free – No tickets required.

Holiday Concert:  CCBC Chamber Singers

7:30 pm, Arts and Humanities Hall, Recital Hall, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd.

Dec. 7

Benjamin Banneker Planetarium Show:  "Christmas Traveler"

10 to 11 a.m., Laboratory Building, 003, CCBC Catonsville, 800 S. Rolling Road.

Follow a Christmas tree doll that comes to life and travels around the world searching for her favorite colors. The sky from the North Pole looks different and changes in a different way than the sky from the equator, and especially the sky from the South Pole. Even more can be seen from out in space, where those favorite colors show up.

Dec. 7-8, 14-15, 21-22

Children's Playhouse of Maryland: Disney's Beauty and The Beast, Jr. by Linda Woolverton

1 p.m. – Dec. 7-8, 14-15, 21-22; 4 p.m.  – Dec. 15, Administration Building, Lecture Hall, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd.

This musical brings a classic fairy tale to life with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice.

An Evening of Big Band Jazz – Annual Holiday Event
8 p.m., College Community Center Theater, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd

Under the direction of CCBC faculty member Ashton Fletcher, Powerhouse Jazz Ensemble will perform jazz standards, big band and holiday favorites.

Dec. 14

Dundalk Community Theatre: 40th Anniversary Fundraiser – Winter Wonderland Concert

7 p.m., College Community Center, John E. Ravekes Theatre, CCBC Dundalk, 7200 Sollers Point Road

Celebrate 40 great years of community theater for Dundalk with the Bel Air Jazz Band and vocalists Nadine Wellington, Shannon Wollman, Edward Peters and more.  Holiday fun for everyone will include caroling, raffles, and light fare.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and $12 for students and children.

Dec. 14

Children's Playhouse of Maryland: Special Matinee with Santa!

Dec. 20-22

Cockpit In Court Summer Theatre Holiday Show: Plaid Tidings

8 p.m. – Dec. 20, 21; 3 p.m. –Dec. 22, College Community Center, Theatre, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd. 

A heavenly boy group returns to Earth to weave the holiday magic of gems like “Let it Snow” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” into the hearts of everyone.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and $12 for students and children.
